Once again if I could give this place negative Stars, I would. First off the place was supposed to be open at 3 pm. It was not due to the owner and his family having a party the night before that didn't end until almost 4am in the morning. Very bad business practice. Secondly and most disturbing, on every page of the menu printed at the bottom it states that there will be a 20% gratuity automatically added. Automatic tipping, service fees, whatever you want to call it are all illegal in New York state. When I finally received the bill the automatic 20% gratuity was already added in. Additionally there was another line for more tipping. They count on customers being drunk so that they do not notice this double-dipping practice. But it amounts to nothing more than theft. When I pointed this out to the woman who gave me the check her only words to me were, "that's how they are doing it now"! I frequented this place many times 3 years ago when the service, food and Ambience was so much better. It is sad to see that even after the pandemic and even after the probable PPE money that they received to stay afloat, that they are still resorting to this unnecessary practice of Common theft and breaking the law. And for that reason I highly recommend that you avoid this place at all cost! I will be reporting them to the BETTER...
Read moreWaiter was friendly and prompt, brought our drinks then forgot to order our guacamole. Half an hour later another waitress came by and was more efficient, got our order right away and brought the food. The guacamole was the furthest thing from Mexican ever, no flavor, no lime, no cilantro, no salt, pretty much just mashed avocado. The salsa tasted as if they opened a jar of marinara sauce and poured into a ramekin, again, no flavor, let alone any Mexican spice. When they brought the bill we paid and added $20 on the tip line. We were about to get up and then we looked at the bill, because $120 seemed a little too much for 1 guacamole and 1 entree. To our surprise they had snuck in a %20 gratuity, which is normally done to tables of 6 and more, to our table of 2 and didn’t bother to tell us. They were trying to double dip and get tipped twice, because they added a tip line with a suggestion tip of %20 after they had already added %20. That’s shady. We crossed off the additional tip and left vowing to never go back to this bland Mexican joint where the waitstaff will try to sneak in a tip. Also, they charged us for “hot” sauce that...
Read moreI’ve been a customer of this hidden gem in NYC for over 20 years. I remember when the restaurant was located on 14th Street and followed their location to 23rd Street. I know that restaurants have taken a financial beating since the pandemic and many beloved restaurants have closed. I was so happy to see the Tequila Chico’s had sustained through the craziness, but here comes the disappointing part of this story.
My daughter and I ordered the Fajitas Mixture ....shrimp/chicken/beef. The dish did come with lettuce/sour cream/ and all the sides that would make a fajita prior to the pandemic but now I was being charged for everything that should be a part of this dish.
The drinks have doubled in price on a Friday and I tasted very little alcohol. After receiving my bill of $133 for an appetizer (2) drinks and (2) main courses plus the gratuity was included. After leaving my once favorite restaurant, I can honestly say it is not my favorite any longer and must now find somewhere to get my Mexican grub on. It’s not the same restaurant that it used to be and that’s sad because at these prices they are going to lose several...
