My only complaint was the server we had, Jessica.
The interaction started with me asking "Is the Riesling pet nat sweet at all?" To which she replied "No, pet nats are always dry." Which is completely false, there are a bunch that are off-dry/semi-sweet, sometimes the yeast dies before fermenting all the sugars in the bottle, but I wasn't there in somm mode and wasn't going to make another servers life hard. I could've overlooked that but her tone insisted it was a ridiculous question and she insisted I try it after I told her twice that I was fine without a test pour.
My girlfriend is still learning and figuring out her palate for wine, all she knows is dry and sweet in terms of descriptors, and has trouble describing what she likes whenever she's in restaurants or retail shops, so she gets anxious when put on the spot and asked certain wine questions, even the basic ones. So with me around, she's willing to try new wines in many different styles and develop her palate. So when I specifically asked for the two glasses of Pet Nat, it was for us to drink together, specifically for her to try another type of sparkling wine. Jessica, I assume saw this as me speaking for the both of us and asks her "What do YOU like?" and proceeds to give her something that wasn't asked for, as if she was doing her a favor...mind you, my girlfriend's response to this question was simply "dry".
Next we get to the cheeses. We already knew we wanted the Jane Jacobs and had an idea of which 2 of the 3 cheese we wanted, and the saucisson sec was an absolute must. The cheese list was somewhat foreign to us and as we were trying to finish up our choices Jessica goes "Do you need more time?" This question was asked a total of three times--she never had to wait more than 5 seconds for a decision to be made. Typically, a good server would give suggestions, or walk you through it in someway, even give you their personal favorites, but instead she was ready to just go and do the next task, building absolutely zero connection with the guest, and the place wasn't packed by any means at the...
Read more$80 bill for the happy hour? okay. when me and my friend walked in some guy just showed us a table where to sit. then no one ever brought the menu so we grabbed that from the table next to us. the menu looks a little confusing cause it has 50-100 pages. when this girl server came over without smile and I don’t remember if she even said hello, I asked her (three times, because she couldn’t get it) what’s your happy hour today, she said “what do you mean?”. it’s fine, I have a patience and asked her again if they have any wine or happy hour drinks, then she pointed to that huge menu and said “yes here”. okay, I figured that, even though it took me forever. I ordered a happy hour wine ($15), my friend asked for the margarita and our server said that they don’t have a margarita (are you guys really don’t carry tequila and some lime juice?). it’s fine we were nice to her all the time. my wine tastes funny, but I didn’t really say anything because it was enough of those awkward conversations. we ordered 24 happy hour assorted oysters ($1.25 each). oysters were fine and the guy who brought was the only nice person there so far. when she brought a bill it was $80 for a glass of wine, martini and those oysters. for 8 oysters they changed us full price $25, and when we asked why, she said because those type of oysters not on the happy hour. I said that we ordered just happy hour oysters and she said sorry about that. that’s it. we still paid that bill. I spent my money yesterday just like that, for nothing. I never leave any reviews but it was the worst experience I’ve ever had. Will never come back and I’ll make sure the...
Read moreI was excited to try this place and the vibe was great, but my experience was soured by my waiter. I was looking through their very large wine list, when the waiter basically forced me to close it and asked what wine I generally like, and he would try to get as close as possible. They had a wine happy hour at the time I was there, so I was looking for something reasonably priced. I asked for a type of wine that generally is a little more expensive than most, but no more than $2 over the average of any given wine glass menu. He brings something “similar” which I liked, my friends had a taste and changed their orders to what I chose. It was only after he had poured all our glasses that he said it was $10 more than the wine my friends had originally ordered, and that we should stick to cheaper options for our next glass. After asking multiple times he said it was a $23 glass. Basically, I think it’s a shame that he kept me from reading through the wine menu, and brought over a drastically more expensive glass of wine than the rest in the context of a happy hour that was meant to give you a little bit of a deal. Again, lovely place but be careful if you’re asked to surrender the menu and just go along with whatever the...
