People have left some odd reviews of this place, including a one-star review for the restaurant apparently being highly politicized—a vibe I neither felt nor could visually identify within or without the establishment. I ordered a single burger and a Sudan spiced peanut butter latte, for ~$15! That’s pretty inexpensive for New York City. I note this as some consider it overpriced. I suppose the food is fairly inexpensive, the lattes slightly higher than average. The “burger” comes wrapped in a homemade pita with diced cucumber, onion, and tomato, plus a few crispy, thick-cut fries and a yummy house sauce. It was a cool twist of the traditional burger and had a nice flavor. The sauce was like a slightly Mediterranean version of Big Mac sauce. The girl working as the barista and cashier was very nice and friendly. She had a nice presence and warm smile, made suggestions, and even gave a stranger free utensils when they popped on to ask. I think it’s definitely worth checking out, and it’s a good place for a cheap & simple meal that’s still quirky and fun.

This place is my new favorite spot to go when I am walking my dog around Forte Greene! The staff is super friendly and the owners are so down to earth and funny. They always have a pup cup ready for my dog, and are very knowledgeable about coffee without being pretentious. As a vegan, I am so excited that their menu includes foods I can eat. So far, my favorite is the vegan breakfast sandy. I also am obsessed with the espresso lemonade, the most refreshing drink. Wifi is awesome and the vibe is very relaxed if you want to work while there. I am impressed by the diversity of their staff, and they have on draft Back Home Beer, for those of you who want to support local businesses that are women and minority owned. As someone who used to live in this neighborhood, I have to say this is a welcome addition, and it already has a community vibe to it. If I could hold my office hours here, I would ;).

The cafe is eclectic, comfy and has a lot of seating and a lot of seasonal drinks options. It is not dog-friendly, despite Google saying otherwise. I brought a dog and we weren’t allowed inside. The service wasn’t the best. Staff said they’d bring us a menu and we waited 10m before going up to the window and ordering and had to go back to collect our food even though it was three, maybe five steps for them to bring it to us at our table and no one was ordering. The guy was just on his phone and chatting to his coworker. The food was delicious. I had a muffin and the girl next to us raved about her egg (something?) sandwich – it looked great. The food probably makes up for the poor service but just bear that in mind if you visit.

Let me just say, at first we had no intention of coming. Actually we were going to the pizza spot next door, but the atmosphere from this place drew us in. The music, menu layout, and even the staff was just instant!

The drink menu is definitely unique, and could be somewhat intimidating if you're someone who just sticks with something like regular coffee (like me), but they were more than willing to explain them to us. We ordered the lavender latte with oat milk and the frozen tahini cold brew. Both drinks were amazing! The lavender latte was so good and wasn't too much on the lavender, but was enough for you to taste and enjoy your drink. The frozen tahini cold brew was just as good! As it starts the melt the tahini starts to taste like chocolate, but even before that there's a somewhat nutty flavor that really goes well with the coffee.

To eat we had the PM menu and chose the vegan fried chicken sandwich, fries, and rosé. Again another hit! The sandwich was amazing, and this is coming from a meat eater. It's enough for two people to be honest, and paired with the fries it's just even better. Speaking of the fries: YES! Seasoned nicely and I'll be honest they rival checkers (plus they're not that oily), and the use of sauce is optional for both the fries and sandwich.

Overall the price was good and reflected the food. You might think it's expensive considering the location, but it wasn't! Like $30-ish...
