The BAKERY on Bergen — Restaurant in New York

Early this year I was having a bad day and decided to walk home in the cold rain. If you've been in Brooklyn when it's raining, you know this was a pretty crazy idea. Of course, I got hungry and found myself inside this cute little bakery. Instantly, the cashier gave me a big smile and we instantly connected. He was super friendly, but I noticed a little sitting in the back who seemed like she was quietly keeping an eye on everything. This turned out to be the owner. I honestly think I say and chatted with them both for about 30 minutes to an hour. They recommended the rum cake and my god...it is still one of my favorite things till this day. The cake itself is very juicy, but also has a good amount of alcohol without the taste. So be careful or you'd probably eat like 2 of theses. I just went back a few days ago and got some empanadas and another rum cake. Always on point. Plus, they gave me a sample of the banana pudding! The cream was excellent, just wish it had more of the waffle cookies cause I love the extra crunch. This place feels very much like a hidden gem. Plus it's minority owned, so...

This has got to be my favorite bakery in Brooklyn. It isn’t just that the baked goods are delicious and beautifully crafted— because boy are they. But the Bakery on Bergen is a special community space that brings people together and includes all, from their community events and classes to the very ingredients they use. My friends and I have purchased 3 birthday orders from the Bakery on Bergen within the last few years, and this year was the most special by far. When I asked if it would be possible to order something gluten free, vegan, nut free, and egg free, the owner, Akim responded “absolutely!” My birthday cake could not have been tastier, but I was mostly blown away by how without hesitation Akim took on the project of making something equally delicious for my friend who has more than a few allergies. What can I say ? Hmmm…. Ms. Kim is an AMAZING soul. Meeting her in person, she embodies what a business owner should be.

Ms. Kim took the time to speak with my son (a Toddler) and I. She could relate to me not only as a person but as Mother. I came in originally looking for Vegan options for my Sons class party. She took her time to speak to us. She didn’t just treat us as just customers. It felt like I was visiting my Aunts Bakery. Ms Kim’s welcoming presence with that smile makes you want to just sit and chat all day.

The Bakery on Bergen has an excellent selection of Cupcakes. From Vegan to Gluten free she literally has something for EVERYONE ! Her Vanilla cupcake was to die for. Not overly sweet, just enough sweetness for Mama and her Toddler. I also had the Gluten free cupcake, mannnn that thang was HITTING !
