Updated Review: I recently celebrated my special day at "The Shell," and it was an amazing experience. The oysters were plump and full of flavor, and the clams were incredibly fresh. While waiting for my appetizers, the warm bread and oil were a delightful treat.
The Squid Ink Linguine with Clams, Mussels, and Calamari stole the show. The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was rich and delicious. The seafood was tender and paired perfectly with the pasta.
The service was top-notch, and the staff surprised me with a birthday song and a complimentary cake. It made the celebration even more special. I highly recommend "The Shell" for a great seafood dining experience.
Past Review: I had the pleasure of dining at "The Shell", a delightful seafood restaurant that exceeded all my expectations. Having walked past it numerous times, I was already drawn to its inviting ambiance, and today, I finally decided to give it a try. From the moment I stepped inside, I knew I was in for a treat.
As I entered, the hostess warmly greeted me with a friendly smile and promptly escorted me to my seat. The atmosphere was lively yet cozy, with tasteful decor. There is outside dining as well.
Once seated, I was fortunate to have Jorge as my server, who proved to be a true gem. His attentiveness and professionalism were outstanding, and he effortlessly made me feel welcomed and well-cared for throughout my meal. He started by asking my preference for water, and I was pleasantly surprised when he brought out a tall glass bottle, ensuring that I would have plenty to drink.
To begin my culinary adventure, I opted for the happy hour menu, available from 3 to 6 pm from Tuesday to Saturday. With an array of choices, I decided to indulge in the mussels, two orders of oysters, and butterfly shrimp. Each item was priced at a reasonable $12, making it even more appealing.
When the food arrived, I was absolutely delighted. The mussels were perfectly cooked, tender, and bathed in a flavorful broth that made every bite a delight. The oysters were incredibly fresh and served on a bed of ice, accentuating their natural brininess. As for the butterfly shrimp, they were crispy, succulent, and accompanied by a delectable dipping sauce that complemented their delicate flavors perfectly.
Throughout my meal, the service remained amazing. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were more than happy to answer any questions I had and ensured that I had everything I needed to thoroughly enjoy my dining experience.
Leaving "The Shell", I couldn't help but feel utterly satisfied and grateful for such a remarkable culinary adventure. The combination of fantastic food, attentive service, and charming atmosphere left a lasting impression on me. I am already looking forward to my next visit, and I wholeheartedly recommend "The Shell" to anyone in search of an exceptional seafood...
Read moreMy daughter deserves all the credit for finding this incredible gem of a restaurant. We wanted to celebrate her birthday at a seafood restaurant and she found this one from the selections at Restaurant Week. The moment we arrived for the reservation, I knew we were going to have a great meal! Clean, bright and airy on an oppressive evening in late June, our host was welcoming and friendly and upon my telling him what we were celebrating, he brought over two lovely glasses of Prosecco while we waited for our table to be readied. We added the Valencia clams to our selections from the Restaurant week menu (all were great!). For our appetizers we both selected the 1/2 dozen oysters on the half shell; entrees were the branzino, mussels and fries for me and the mixed berry sorbet and bread pudding for dessert. The oysters were absolutely divine, bright, briny, delicious with the mignonette sauce and the Valencia clams were heavenly with a delicious parsley and garlic sauce that we wiped out with our bread to enjoy and savor all the sauce it came in. The Mediterranean branzino was perfectly prepared and the mussels were delicious! My daughter's dessert of bread pudding came out with a candle and we joyously sang Happy Birthday! A totally epic and deliciously sublime dinner. The host and his staff were attentive to us throughout the meal and we now have a favorite seafood restaurant on the UWS. Great food, ambience, staff and atmosphere - this place is the trifecta of a perfect evening! I can't...
Read moreMy wife and I came in for dinner with our 15 and 20 year old boys on a Friday night, after viewing the menu outside, where we were greeted by a solicitous host. Not many people were eating there at 8:00 p.m., unlike nearby Dagon, which was packed, but we decided to give it a try. For starters, we shared a Maryland crab cake, which was okay, but very overpriced at $18 considering the small amount of lump crabmeat it contained. For entrees, we had halibut, salmon, red snapper, and the seafood paella. For the most part, the food was just okay, not particularly flavorful and nothing to write home about and the portions were not very large. My salmon was okay, but not the freshest piece of fish I have ever eaten. My son's paella dish was sauteed in a lot of oil; for $32 it had only three shrimps and a handful of clams and mussells. (Compare the similarly priced paella at Sevilla in the West Village, which puts it to shame). We ordered a side dish of potatoes, but aside from my wife we all left hungry despite the $200+ price tag; you'd have to spend upwards of $300 for a family of four to leave satisified. On the plus side, the bottled beer was reasonably priced, the inside dining room was clean and comfortable, and the service was very good; they comped us on a piece of cheesecake after I expressed my honest opinion when asked. Foodwise, though, it was...
