Was prompted to go to this authentic Ecuadorian restaurant by someone from Ecuador, then a friend who is Ecuadorian saod she heard it was good (but hadn't been). We went for dinner and tried a variety of dishes. The shrimp ceviche cocktail with tostones was maybe the best but not special: overly acidic and - like the rest of the meal - underseasoned. However they are generous with the portion, like all the dishes.
We had a traditional Ecuadorian stew of lamb, tripe, egg, and potatoes over white and yellow rice. Again it was totally underseasoned. And there was no egg. The potatoes were tender and the tripe was hit or miss (some tender some chewy). The lamb was also so-so. The rice was nice and it came with more shrimp ceviche. Unfortunately that wasn't written on the menu, so we had too much shrimp (first world problem).
We also had thr chicken special, half a rotisserie chicken with rice and beans, the beans were great but there was very little. The chicken had no seasoning amd was quite dry.
We had the avocado salad which was average.
Altogether totally forgettable food in a lounge like atmosphere in an inconvenient spot. We...
Read moreThe food is amazing here every time. Recently started working around the area and walked in here not expecting anything. The food is a little on the hearty side, but every dish I had there was incredible. The first time I got the Bandeja paisa and was very good. The chicharon was a bit too fatty for me, but I gave it to my friend and he LOVED it. The portions are extremely generous and one plate could probably feed me at least 2 times. The ceviche was good and fresh and the tostones were SOOOO fresh, cooked to perfection; crispy on the outside and just enough plantain in the middle for that soft chew. The green sauce they have made in house just added that cherry on top. I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone who wants a hearty meal. The only thing I would be wary of is getting the...
Read moreI don’t usually leave negative reviews, but my last visit to Tropical left a really bad impression. The food itself is okay, nothing special, but the real issue is how they handle their prices. The menu shows one price, but when you get the bill it’s actually higher. No one mentions this when you order, so you only find out at the end when it’s too late.
When I asked the staff about it, they admitted they’ve told management many times, but management refuses to fix it. To me, that’s extremely unethical. It feels like false advertising and shows no consideration for customers.
I can accept average food, but I can’t accept being misled on pricing. Until they decide to be transparent and honest with their customers, I wouldn’t...
