**Update to my review from 2016 (left old review as well) 2021: we went to uncle Ted's throughout covid 19 shutdown to continue supporting our favorite business even though right before the pandemic we moved out of Manhattan. In January I noticed the regular staff were not around and no one knew who I was even asking for. Even more so my favorite dish the Uncle Teds Special Fried Rice with spicy sausage was totally different. No jalopenos, addition of peas and carrots and just totally tasteless. Some of the other food seemed slightly different but no better or worse. Then indoor dining resumed so we figured the order was just put in wrong last pickup order let's try it. Everything was different, everyone working, the tastes of the foods we've always loved, the presentation, it was just all different. I'd say it's now a run of the mill stop for decent Chinese food. But it's not what it was before with unique and family style dishes. This restaurant was our favorite spot in the city for Chinese so much so they we paid tolls to drive in to get it and see Uncle Ted and Andrew and Agnes, I hope they are all well and I hope to hear that eventually they will bring back original recipes from uncle Ted's of pre covid. If so I'd definitely be back here as a regular once again.
2016: I have tried multiple dishes and have loved everyone. Good quality food with great sauces. I definitely suggest the Uncle Teds Special Fried Rice, slightly spicy...
Read moreWeâve been eating and taking out from here since they were in the mid other location. Lately itâs so hit or miss for takeout. A few months ago I said we wouldnât take out from there anymore after a big miss. Saturday I was really wanting to get fried rice from there so I did an online pick up. I have to say first that everyone is always sooooo nice and kind there. When we went to eat the rice it was so greasy looking and tasted like burnt oil. The egg roll was like a heavy sack of oil. They both tasted like they were fried in burnt old oil. The rice and egg roll tasted exactly the same. Usually the veggie fried rice has little cut up pieces of broccoli but this had a few large pieces that tasted really off. We couldnât eat the food. I was going to bring it back yesterday as itâs still in our fridge but decided just to leave this review. The food was taking out on Saturday the 5th. Maybe bc it was the day after July 4th not on par?when you eat in usually the food is really excellent here. So itâs hard to not want to go there anymore but itâs to much of a 50/50 if it will be good. Again, everyone that works there are extremely kind at the take out section and the waitresses when you dine in. Itâs just that itâs so hot or miss...
Read moreDecided to try a new takeout place and, oh boy, did I regret it. My chicken and broccoli had a hair in it and a piece of bone that hurt my mouth. Rice was mushy. I figured, âit happensâ so when to the next dish: fried rice. I was just as disappointed as it had a weird flavor to it that I canât decide what it was from. Anyway, it was inedible. Took 3 bites and was done. Next, onto the veggie Lo Mein. Same weird taste and, thus, was inedible. 3 bites and done. Finally, the scallion pancakes. Overcooked and super flaky. Have never had scallion pancakes so dry and literally falling apart. My girlfriend felt the same way about all the dishes too so it wasnât just me. Overall, the worst Chinese food that I have EVER had. I ended up throwing it out which is a shame since a lot of the dishes were BOGO. I absolutely HATE wasting food but I wouldnât even give this food away.
Was very disappointing. Iâm not sure how they have ever gotten a âgoodâ review if this is their food quality.
With plenty of Chinese food places in NYC, would highly recommend trying...
