Roughly a week ago, I was asked to perform my first gig as a jazz performer/crooner. I was simultaneously excited and horrified — after all, I was given four days to prepare a three-hour set with no prior experience. I wanted to check all the boxes to make a good first impression -- of course, including that of my appearance. I was accustomed to getting a haircut 45 minutes away via subway, which would have cost me over a hundred dollars and would have required a reservation. I had neither the budget nor the time to make that trip this time around. So I did some research online and heard about this ā€œMade Men Villageā€ place. It had been my experience hitherto that these places (barbershops) were subpar--they could cut hair, but never delivered the refinement I was after. I was usually left disappointed, having to compensate with the use of gel/styling products. Those places usually had a price point similar to this barbershop: ~$50 or so. Cautiously, I entered the building, and that was when I met Rory. Right away, this guy’s charm shone through--he shook my hand, asked my name, and we got down to business. I showed him so references and explained my situation, which is when a lightbulb went off in his head, prompting him to ask me to trust him. He quickly summarized what I wanted and brilliantly articulated what I was after: a clean, vintage crooner-styled haircut. Usually, I have an indifferent relationship to barbers--not much conversation, just all business. But Rory had such a compassionate atmosphere that I felt inclined to open up. I explained to him my worries, and he reframed them, drawing upon his own experiences as a former musician, in a way that left me uplifted, energized, and motivated by the time he was done. The conversation was excellent, and I was glad to hear some of his life’s details as well. Beyond conversation, however, his haircutting specialities were excellent. He explained and revealed to me the shape of my skull, and how I could use my hair’s textures to cut and style it in a way that supports its natural qualities (i.e., its curves and tendencies). He explained to me the logistics of what we had been doing and showed me something no other barber ever has: how to style my hair, what products to use, and what style I could pull off in a way that highlights my best features and achieves the aesthetic I was going for. I learned so much and was left full of ideas and inspiration on how to style my hair. Overall, Rory made for ostensibly the best haircut I ever had. The place is affordable, available, has a great atmosphere, and gives you a great deal; included within the price is a hairwashing/blow-drying service. I highly recommend giving the place a visit, and I highly recommend requesting Rory as your barber. Oh, and FYI, the performance went great.

I had my first appointment with Omar at Made Man Barber Shop, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. He has a relaxed, professional approach that makes the whole process easy—from booking to the final cut. His skill with both scissors and buzzers is top-tier, and he really takes the time to get everything just right. The result was a clean, natural look that felt effortless. It’s clear Omar is a master of his craft, and I appreciate the attention to detail. I’ll definitely be back every month. Highly recommend!

What a treat to find this place! I’m visiting from Los Angeles and saw all the great reviews. Rory ended up being my barber. He asked me what I wanted and also gave me options for what would work best for my head and face. He took great care and wanted to make sure I was happy when I went back to Los Angeles. I loved my haircut! And we had a great conversation too. Rory and Dennis clearly have passion for their work and their craft. When I come back to NYC, I’ll definitely be back here again.

This is by far, by far, the best hairstyle I've had in my life. I admit that I had been going to a well-known barber shop in the city for nearly two decades. I was never very happy with my haircuts: flat, lifeless, thin, boring. I just thought I had "bad hair" - I'm 50, so my hair is not as thick as it used to be. Well, I found Made Man Barbershop online and liked the name, but also noticed all the great reviews. Well, I've been here twice now, and had Danil as my barber. My first visit I tried to describe to Danil the problems I'd been having. He just said "I know what you want," and went to work. He was right! People have been noticing, and complimenting me, on how good my hair looks. That never happened before! A few nights ago two of my very old friends from high school - (who knew me when I had lots of hair) - were in town. They both commented that my hair looked great. Later on, I was saying to one of them that her son, who is 14, has "great hair," and I said "Tell him to enjoy it!" She replied: "You have great...

I recently visited Made Man Barber Shop, and I can confidently say it's the best grooming experience I've had in years. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome and a stylish, modern atmosphere that immediately set the tone for a top-notch service.

The barbers are true professionals, demonstrating exceptional skill and attention to detail. They took the time to understand exactly what I wanted and offered great suggestions to enhance my look. The haircut was impeccable, and the precision in the beard trim was remarkable.

What really sets Made Man apart is the customer care. I felt valued throughout the entire experience, with a complimentary drink and engaging conversation that made the time fly by. The shop is immaculately clean and well-organized, creating a relaxing environment where you can unwind and enjoy...
