So many of my friends hype this place up, and I wish I never listen to them. My partner and I decided to go on a crab boil run. for the last 2 weeks we have visited a plethora of restaurants that specialize in Crab, lobster, shrimp boils and though this one had the best in terms of flavor their service was very much like Leicester. It could be because my partner and I are plus size African Americans as we realized many other customers, who were mainly White or smaller black men, but we did not get the greatest customer service at the boil. though he's playing it was our first time there and we were interested in understanding the menu, which on the first plants is actually quite confusing, the waitress did not explain much more than these are the appetizers these are the drinks. I decided to get a bunch of appetizers as I was a bit over crab while my partner got a snow crab leg boil. The appetizers were fine, they were actually quite delicious though the crab roll and brussel sprouts side had a strong flavor of lime that I was not expecting. My partner said the snow crab leg boil was actually quite delicious as well she only got old Bay on them but she said they were quite flavorful and not to over seasons.because our waitress decided to not explain things to us though there were many things that were left out of our meal that we thought would come along with it. For example because my partner only ordered the one pound meal of snow crab legs, she did not receive the potatoes and corn that normally come in boil bags. Something that could have easily been explained that our waitress decided we didn't need to know. The waitress also had a weird way of only trying to get us to order garlic butter, though we said more than once we did not want garlic butter and only required drawn butter. We later found out that drawn butter is $4 extra. Why that is we will never know because we did not order it. after we got all of our food, the staff did their best to ignore us and walk as quickly passed this as possible. Only really stopping to refill our Waters and to take plates off of our table without asking if we were finished with them. In general they didn't seem to be much hospitality, which was very surprising since the restaurant was not packed for this late afternoon Sunday. the moment we were done eating they stripped everything off of the table, without asking if we were done, and rushed us out.
In terms of the bill, the price was actually relatively better than many of the other boil spots we have been too. again everything at this restaurant was fine, but the service was deplorable. We will most likely never return to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCame here with a group of 9 people. Luckily this place takes reservations and had no issues getting a table. The menu is fairly simplistic and easy to find things. This place is pretty much all seafood so if you don't like seafood or have seafood allergies or pregnant, I would not recommend coming here. I have not been to the locations in CA (where the restaurant originated) but what I had in NYC was good.
Their version of cajun sauce is good. Seafood is seafood and they have their own intrinsic taste. The sauce doesn't really get into the meat so it's more of a dipping sauce. We tried almost everything except for the clams. I think the king crab and lobster entrees were worth it. The crayfish is a little more difficult to peel because of the small size and obviously not much meat. The meat is also chewy and not as sweet. I would suggest for them to use langoustine as an alternative to crayfish. It's a much bigger crustacean, basically a mini lobster. I would recommend the shrimp over the crayfish.
The corn was excellent, just enough old bay, not burnt but a little too much butter for my taste. The fried calamari was okay. The cajun fries were good. The catfish basket was a little soggy for my taste. The cajun wings were just wings. I would get it if you don't think you'll be full after eating all the seafood.
Between the butter and cajun sauce, I would highly recommend the cajun sauce. We got the spicy level and I thought it was just perfect.
The service was excellent and catered to our needs. The staff works hard here. We had brought in a cake and they kept it in the fridge for us and charged a cake cutting fee. One of our friends was allergic to seafood and they allowed us to bring in an outside meal (which was very much appreciated). All their fried stuff uses the same oil so there is cross contamination with seafood.
One thing to note is this place is cash only. I understand the decision to go that route but it is also a huge pet peeve of mine. One good thing is that their POS software calculates the tax off of the subtotal, not the total. They provide latex free gloves.
Eating here is pricey because you need to eat a lot of seafood...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāll say the most important thing first: I would never come back here or recommend this place to anyone because my friend and I got food poisoning 24hrs after eating here. (I track my food and my friend and I exhibited the same exact symptoms. This was the only meal we ate together in that time frame.)
I ordered the garlic bread, oysters, margaritas, and seafood boil with snow crab clusters and shrimp. It took 10-15 mins after being seated for any server to come up to us with water or to take our order, and we were passed by multiple times before our waitress finally came to us. Our waitress was attentive after initial contact so that was appreciated. The āgarlic breadā seemed to be melted butter and garlic powder on hamburger buns š. For $4?ā¦ok. The oysters seemed good especially for $1/piece. Margaritas were fine, nothing crazy and reasonable for $10. (We went during the Monday deal). The seafood boil itself was below average. The seasoning blend was over salted. I initially thought it was strange that my bag wasnāt steaming hot for longer than 2 mins. My food got cold very quickly and that typically doesnāt happen when Iāve had seafood boils at other places. Iām not sure what exactly caused the food poisoning for my friend and I, but it was 100% from this restaurant and Iām extremely disappointed especially in contrast to the food reviews the place has, and how viral it is. I ate here on Monday evening, around 8pm. My friend and Iās symptoms began on Wednesday (new yearās day) around midnight. We both had to go to the ER for treatment and we are still suffering from symptoms as I write this review. I posted about my experience on Instagram and other people said they also suspected getting food poisoning from this establishment. @TheBoil, aside from basic morals and a proper standard for food quality, but also in consideration of your high prices and forced 20% gratuity, you need...
