Uva Next Door — Restaurant in New York

Went for the "$4 Martini Mondays" as advertised and was charged $8 for each drink instead.

Stated in large font at the top of the drink menu is: "$4 Martinis. All. Night. Long." With a list of martinis offered. We sat at the bar and when my girlfriend ordered she said "I'll have the Sour Cherry martini." The bartender nodded understanding and went off to make the drink. Returned with a beautiful martini. Little while later the bartender asks if she would like another one and my girlfriend says "I'll try the espresso martini." Lovely, the drink is amazing. Same thing happens again, bartender comes over and my girlfriend asks "i'll have another espresso martini." (We also ordered food that was great.)

Bill comes and the drinks were listed as $8 each?? I asked the bartender, "isn't it $4 martinis" and she says "no you have to ask for the small $4 martinis, otherwise it's just a full sized $8 martini." As I look confused she says "that's how it works, it's not my fault."

Now at the very bottom of the "$4 Martini Monday" menu is a little line that says: "Know what you love? Double your pour for just $4 more - $8 doubles"

At NO point was it expressed to us that the standard is a double pour or the $8 martini. In fact the menu clearly states the purpose of the night is $4 martinis, and if you want a double, ask for it. The bartender said there was nothing she could do and it wasn't her fault? She never asked us which size martini we would like, why would you assume we want a double?

Poor business model and poorly addressed by the bartender. I was enraged but didn't want to make a scene. Bartender tried to offer "two more half-martinis" to make up for it but at this point why do we need more alcohol, we're walking out. No offer was made to...

We went opening night and had the most special dinner. The euphoria of the food made me feel like I traveled to Italy tonight and I want to give huge complements to the chef. We could see him at work from our table and you could see love and craftsman care being shared in each plate. The three of us ordered the margarita pizza, gnocchi, squash pasta, pesto pasta, olive oil cake, and chocolate strawberry polenta and each dish was exquisitely authentic with gradually unraveled flavors. The pizza was my favorite part, had a crunchy thin crust, perfect sauce, and the right amount of cheese. The gnocchi tasted like someone's Nona who loves you crafted the pillowy, creamy dish that tasted like a warm blanket on a snowy day. The squash pasta brought me to a crisp autumn day with a delightful cookie like crumble atop. The pesto pasta was a must have dish, with crunchy broccoli rounds and basil that made it fresh and with a crispness pasta dishes rarely pull off. The olive oil cake was a light finisher with a not.too sweet palette cleansing finish, and the chocolate strawberry polenta was like chocolate ice cream with a surprisingly decadent swirl of olive oil I scraped the bowl to finish. We had a luncheon for 60 people at UVA Next Door. Everyone was so nice, easy and accommodating to work with during the planning stage and also the day of party. They were patient, kind and thoughtful from the very first inquiry. At our luncheon we had a variety of different items from the menu. Our guests enjoyed passed appetizers for the first hour. When we sat at tables the food never stopped coming. We had a variety of main dishes, pastas, pizzas and dessert that were all served Family Style. There was so much food and we all raved about each item! We had gluten free guests at the party who commented that their items were so delicious they were amazed and asked twice for clarification that they indeed had the gluten free item! We included for our guests an Open Bar and everyone enjoyed a variety of fun and delicious cocktails and mocktails as well as beer and wine. The atmosphere was very cozy inside and the staff were so nice and attentive. No one wanted it to end or leave! We are looking forward to coming back for a more intimate dinner to continue to explore UVA Next Door's delicious menu and drinks! Highly recommend this...
