I came to this bar with a large group of people after we did a play nearby at TheaterLabNYC. The cast wanted a night out together and I found this rooftop while searching google maps. It was close and moderately priced and looked like a good time. Unfortunately, the experience was not great. I met up with the group a little after they arrived and after realizing how the system of ordering worked I got in line behind the cashier at the bar and waited patiently to order what I wanted. It also gave me ample time to think about what I really wanted. And in the end, I wanted a glass of Pinot Grigio and tacos which was $3 each with a purchase of an alcoholic drink. In the cue of the line was a cast member in front of me, myself, and a crew member from the play. As I ordered with the cashier who was a lovely Latina woman, I waited for my glass of wine. As I waited, I realized my stage manager that ordered after me ordered the same glass of wine. When we were both given the same glasses of wine from the gentleman who presented themselves as the bartender, I realized my pour was significantly lower than hers. I didn't want to say anything because as a bartender myself, sometimes in the moment you don't realize you poured a significantly smaller pour than another persons (which is rare). The night goes on, I proceed to the bar where the gentleman was the only person behind the bar. I meet a cast mate who's in the process of already ordering a Paloma, and behind me was another cast mate. While we wait, we chat a little bit about random stuff and when my cast mate gets her drink before me I'm ready to order my drink since it's my turn. The bartender doesn't even look at me and skips to the next person. My cast mate says, "oh wait you're before me go ahead..." and as I proceed to order the bartender walks away meets the other woman behind the bar, says something to her, looks at me, and walks away. I shrug it off saying, "wow he doesn't want to serve me I guess," and she proceeds to laugh. I get my glass of wine and as the line cue finishes, he comes back to continue service regularly. Now listen, I shouldnt think much of this incident, but the fact that he intentionally skipped over me, walked away, looked at me after he said something to his coworker and then walked away was very telling of how he felt about me. And then he comes back after I ordered is also very telling! He didn't leave the bar the whole night after that! *Side note: every woman who was in my group, the pour for their wines were extremely large compared to what I was getting along side the other men in this group! The last pour that one of my cast mates got who is a woman was poured 3/4 of her wine glass leaving only a 1/4 room. If you ever encounter this person at this rooftop bar, I encourage you to call him out and ask him what his problem is. because the next time I go there, if ever, I will definitely not hesitate to question what his issues are when I am someone who has worked in this industry, as a bartender, for 4+ years. If you don't like your job and/or the people you serve.....GO. SOMEWHERE. ELSE. No one needs that type of attitude when all they want to do is have a good time with your overpriced drinks and bland food! Trust me, if you're reading this now and I go back to this establishment and youre still there, I won't be afraid to call your disrespectful, sexist, homophobic, toxic masculinity out! I'll make a scene just to get your management involved so they know what kind of employee they hired! People like you need to work at an establishment where interacting with people is the last thing you do! Which is sad, because bartenders are the face of the bar and the establishment....they should make everyone feel welcome and make sure everyone is having...
Read moreMy friends and I recently had a terrible experience at this bar. To start, the drinks were completely watered down—we each had three cocktails, and we couldn’t taste any alcohol or feel any effects. It was like they barely put any alcohol in them.
The situation worsened when we saw that the bartender had charged us double for each cocktail. Apparently, he misinterpreted our order (either unintentionally or on purpose) and charged us extra for a liquor we didn’t ask for. One of our companions had ordered top-shelf liquor just for one of his drinks, but the bartender decided to put it in all of our drinks—even though we were two different parties. Never mind that we didn’t even taste this “top-shelf liquor” or any liquor for that matter. I’d inquired specifically about the happy hour deals at the start of the evening, so it’s hard to believe he genuinely thought we all wanted premium pricing.
When we tried to clarify, he became defensive, turned away from me and my friend, refused to provide the manager’s name, and even threatened to call security multiple times, treating us like we were the problem. When our male friend joined the conversation, his tone suddenly changed. He admitted his mistake but claimed that “the cameras recorded him pouring that specific liquor,” which is why he “had to” charge us double—even though we hadn’t ordered it. Despite acknowledging his error, he didn’t even consider offering a refund. It took involving hotel management just to get him to apologize.
Overall, the service was unprofessional and disrespectful, and the staff’s lack of accountability was shocking. We won’t be coming back to this...
Read moreMy experiences here have been hit or miss. On the plus side, the atmosphere is very nice, and it's a convenient hangout when staying at the hotel. When I was here last summer, we had great service and delicious food multiple times.
However, my most recent stay was a complete 180 (no pun intended). The night I arrived, it was late, and I tried to order food on-site instead of going out. Despite the posted sign saying last call for food was 45 minutes before closing, I was told it was too late to order. It was 9:30, and the bar didn't close until 11. I'm not sure if there were extenuating circumstances or if the bartender just didn't want to be bothered.
Two nights later, I tried again and successfully ordered, but I'm fairly certain the bartender forgot my order. After close to an hour, I inquired about it and was told food service was closed even though it was an hour before closing. After pointing out that I'd already ordered and paid, he assured me it would be soon. After another 25 minutes, I received chicken skewers, which were fine but nothing special, and egg rolls which were disgustingly soggy from the cooking oil.
While the gentleman was very apologetic, I will not plan on returning after 2/2 negative experiences. There are plenty of other places to buy...
