My experience with the tank is as a rehearsal space. That being said I personally find it unprofessional that there is never an employee on site, they book the rooms back to back &you as the next group have to kick people out. The floors are always filthy as well as most of the chairs and tables. The ac only kind of works in the large space. When there are shows/events in the large space they fail to inform people to arrive early bc the elevator is horribly slow to the point I was 20min late for rehearsal bc the line for the elevator was down the block. The elevator always feels like it's about to break down and they can't even replace the light on the 6fl button. The sheer amount of artists that they program is staggering, and while it is a chaotic balancing act and revolving door of sorts, they are doing so to benefit performing artists of all backgrounds and disciplines. The Tank provides space for artists to create work without a financial barrier and is a place that I keep returning to for new work for this reason. The only downside is that since many shows happen here, there will be nights where there are up to 4 shows a night and it can get pretty crowded (and it doesn't have the largest lobby), but aside from that, it is truly one of the most incredible hubs for new theatrical work in New York City.
