This was my first visit to NYC in many years-a short trip to take in some sights, and shows the week before Christmas with my daughter, and her mother in law. We decided to booked two rooms at Courtyard after hours of researching available accomodations throughout the city. I am soooo happy we decided to stay here. Upon check in I was blown away! The staff is friendly and helpful. A small reservation problem was taken care of quickly, and when I requested that our rooms be re-assigned to a lower floor, the change was made without hesitation or complaint. Altough we did not request it, we were offered ajoining rooms. The rooms are spacious for any hotel, let alone one in NYC, we had a king, and a double queen room on the seventh floor. The ajoining rooms made it convenient to keep track of our small group. The rooms are very clean, and tastefully decorated, beds are comfortable, there's a small refrigerator in the room, and if needed, the hotel has a microwave available on the first floor. There was also a small safe in the room. Bathrooms are roomy. WiFi was fast and free for Bonvoy members. I loved being able to regulate the heat in our room with the thermostat. I did not use the business center, or gym, nor did I eat in the restaurant, however one of my companions had breakfast twice, it's New York City, so food prices are a little high, but she enjoyed the food. The Parking garage is available just three buildings down, I Paid $45.00, including tax, to park a mid size car for 24 hours, SUVs are more expensive, about $55.00 to $65.00 per day, so check with the hotel before booking. Be sure to mention to the parking attendent that you are staying at the hotel. The parking rate is a special offered to hotel guests. The hotel is located on a side street, which had less traffic at night than the main drag, so I was not disturbed by blowing horns, sirens, and such. Getting around was very easy, we walked a good bit, but there is a subway station about two blocks away. Depending on weather, and destination you can walk to many major attractions- empire state building, Grand Central station, Macy's, midtown and several museums. Two in our group are between 64-70 years old, getting around was not a problem. This hotel also has great senior rates. Overall, I can't think of a single negative thing to say about this hotel. I would definitely stay again and would highly...
Read moreThe location is ideal for visiting Times square or Madison Square garden. Stores and food in walking distance of course. Parking is not ideal. I may be biased, I'm somewhat from "the south." Lobby area is kinda small and the lobby bathroom situation is weird but not too bad...it's almost in a basement. The rooms were clean, somewhat tight but still comfortable. All the staff I interacted with were either cool/decent or exceptional.
I stayed at this Marriott while in town celebrating my birthday and seeing a show at Madison Square Garden. Antonio was the front desk agent on the night we returned from the show. It seemed 1 of his duties was ensuring the safety of guests at night. He assisted me with getting into the hotel as the folks I was traveling with were trying to find food after the concert and they had the key. Antonio was able to help me verify and sit in a cozy area while I determined where to meet them. He even suggested a semi-healthy beverage option from the hotel’s “store” area after I shared that I was thirsty but did not necessarily want water or soda. Antonio was very helpful in suggesting places to eat, providing detailed directions, and sharing personal insight about the area. Not only did Antonio help me a lot that night, I noticed how attentive, polite, and helpful he was to other guests who were arriving or just exiting/entering. I noticed him saying “Welcome back” to guests and “Have a good night.” It was commendable that Antonio did not lose his professionalism or smile while assisting me, completing paperwork, maintaining the security, answering the phones, and acknowledging every guest in some way as this hotel was actually quite busy this night. Although the highlight of my time in NY for my birthday was the amazing show at Madison Square Garden, it was also the little moments, like my encounter with Antonio and stay at the Marriott, that also made my stay special. Also kudos to the young lady who worked the front desk during the day I believe her name is Crystal...top notch customer service. and also a young man who helped with our luggage, parking, recommendations and general pleasant conversation...i don't recall his name but he is tall with braids, lighter complexion and familiar with Virginia where we were...
Read moreI was surprised at the overwhelmingly positive reviews because my experience was anything but. The hotel is between Port Authority and Penn Station and is directly next to a harm reduction site, so there are a lot of homeless directly in front of or next to the hotel, and I witnessed two medical events with the homeless during my three days there. It’s NYC, and you’re near Times Square, so the road noise and sirens are constant and even expected, but even inside the room, the noise compromised sleep. The air conditioner is a window unit, and it is LOUD. The cover to the A/C unit would often rattle, and I had to put a heavy item on the panel to get it to stop rattling. Sometimes even with the heavy object, the AC would still manage to rattle, so I would have to get up in the middle of the night to turn off the unit, but then I struggled with the city heat. ||The room was clean, but the interiors are very dark. I am Bonvoy Platinum, but I didn’t receive an upgrade, and the room I received was oddly laid-out and right next to the elevator—maybe it is the only single king room layout offered at the property? The door is directly in front of the bed, so there is zero privacy whenever you open the door. The water pressure in the shower was non-existent. When I checked in, I was not asked what I wanted my welcome amenity to be, so I had to follow up later. Even when you’re platinum, you are offered only points or a F&B credit, but not both. ||Compared to other Courtyards in the city, this one didn’t have a water refill station in the lobby (but they did have one in the gym), and for some reason the automatic doors at the entrance didn’t open when you approached very closely, even during broad daylight. I don’t know if it’s a mitigation to prevent non-guests from entering, but it was odd, and no one ever instructed us that we’d have to swipe our key card to enter the hotel during business hours. ||The positives were the coin-operated laundry room, and the morning baristas are very nice. Otherwise, I couldn’t wait to switch hotels. The location, neighbors, front desk hospitality, and room itself were far below what I’ve experienced with...
