I spent a week at this hotel, then traveled to Washington, D.C., and later returned to it. The first time, everything was normal, which made me decide to extend my stay and rebook the same hotel when I came back. Here’s exactly what happened to me:
First of all, the hotel doesn’t have a smart TV, and even the fridge was empty — but I thought, that’s okay, no big deal. However, when I came back from Washington, D.C., I was shocked to find that the bed sheet I slept on had dark yellow stains, indicating that it had been there for a long time!!
Also, the towels I requested came in the condition you can see in the photos — torn and in bad shape — as if I’m staying in a cheap motel, not an expensive hotel with a well-known name. The next day, when I opened the curtains, I noticed a disgusting amount of mold and dirt on the top of the curtains!!
The day after that, I woke up feeling a bit tired, so I asked them to send me coffee capsules and towels. A while later, they sent tea capsules instead of coffee, and when I asked about the towels, they told me they were not available at the moment!! How can towels not be available? Am I staying in a one-star hotel or what?! The staff member was very rude and irritating.
Also, the noise cancellation is extremely poor. One day, while I was lying in bed, I could clearly hear the people in the room above me talking — I even knew what video they were watching because the sound came through so clearly!!
And last but not least, every time the housekeeping staff cleans, they have a cart with their cleaning tools, and on the cart is a wireless device that is always on speaker mode — day or night, at any time. Because of the poor sound insulation, I could always hear them. They weren’t just giving short instructions — they talked for a long time, loudly and annoyingly. On more than one occasion, they really disturbed both me and my husband.
I’m someone who travels frequently, and not once in my life have I stayed in a hotel where the bed sheet was this wrinkled and poorly presented. The housekeeping service is bad — not only in how they interact with guests, but even their cleaning is incomplete. They clean some things and leave others. For example, as you can see in the photo, they left cutlery and knives that belong to the hotel restaurant, and didn’t take them — even though the restaurant staff clearly told me that housekeeping would pick them up.
To make things worse, I checked Google Maps and found many other negative reviews about this hotel — and the management doesn’t respond to them or seem to take them seriously. What matters to me is that people become aware of what I’ve mentioned, because this place is truly bad and disappointing.
It was a terrible and frustrating stay. I will never return to this...
Read moreFrom the moment I arrived at the hotel, I was immediately made to feel at home by the warm and friendly staff. Their welcoming smiles were matched with sincere greetings, and they wished me a great day every time I set out on my daily adventures. Their attentiveness and courtesy extended throughout my entire stay, adding a personal touch to their impeccable service.
The hotel's cleanliness was one of the first things I noticed. Everywhere I looked, from the shiny floors of the lobby to the meticulously prepared guest rooms, it was clear that maintaining a high standard of hygiene was a priority for the staff. My room was always kept in immaculate condition, with fresh linens, spotless surfaces, and a pleasing, fresh fragrance that greeted me each time I returned.
One of the highlights of my stay was having a restaurant right in the lobby. It wasn't just convenient—it was an experience in itself. The menu offered a delectable range of international and local dishes, catering to various tastes and preferences. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the ingredients and the creativity in their preparation. Whether I was grabbing a quick breakfast before heading out or enjoying a leisurely dinner after a day of sightseeing, the culinary delights served in a cozy atmosphere added to the pleasure of my stay.
Moreover, the hotel's location seemed strategically chosen, providing easy access to public transportation and local attractions. This allowed me to explore the area effortlessly and make the most of my trip. And whenever I needed recommendations or assistance with reservations and directions, the concierge was more than happy to help.
Other amenities at the hotel, such as a well-equipped fitness center and a comfortable lounge area, also contributed to a satisfying stay. The free Wi-Fi was consistently reliable, making it easy for me to stay connected with friends and family or take care of any work-related tasks.
Overall, the combination of genuine hospitality, impeccable cleanliness, in-house dining, and thoughtful amenities made my stay at this hotel a truly memorable experience. I left with the sense that the staff truly cared about my comfort and enjoyment, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to others or return for a...
Read moreWe have stayed in no fewer than 10 hotels in New York City during the past few years. This time we decided to try out HY36 and this place really came out on top of our list.
location - close to Times Square, Amtrak and Hudson Yard/High Line. Other than the 1 time when we went to Brooklyn, we walked, including the 30 mins walk to Central Park. Even in the summer heat, it was not an issue.
room - big compared to most New York City hotels and for the price, very good value for money.
neigborhood - number of good restaurants on 9 Ave, we tried the Thai restaurant and pizza place that are just round the corner and both were great. Saw a few more that we hope to try next time when we are back in New York.
noise level - worth mentioning because New York City can be noisy with the traffic. We had a room that faces south and couldn‘t hear the traffic noise at all
can be better - the shower is not particularly powerful and the temperature adjusting take some getting use to. the room air conditioning is a bit on the loud side. but both of these are similar to what we have experience at other hotels in New York City.
What makes us want to come back - From the time we check-in to the time we check-out, everyone we came across at the hotel was amazing. We found the staff very friendly and showed a genuine interests in helping to make our stay enjoyable. What impressed us the most was that the housekeeping team seems to enjoy their work. Af the other hotels that we have stayed, the housekeeping team seems to try to make themselves invisible. At HY36, the way the housekeeping team interact with us gave us a sense that they are treated well by management and they see themselves as part of the guests experience. Picture this, when we run into a housekeeping staff and if the employee seems stressed and unhappy because of their work or work environment, it would be hard to enjoy our stay. That was totally the opposite at HY36.
Thank you to all the...
