This place deserves at least 7 of 5 stars. It has some of the best pastries I have ever eaten! And I’ve eaten a lot of different pastries in a lot of different places. 😋😊
The food is DELICIOUS! High quality ingredients, and art quality baking. It was so good that I just stayed for a while and kept trying new things. I wish I could have tried everything. I will with time.
The atmosphere is fun and cozy, and they sell fun things in addition to the amazing food/drink (like musical 8-tracks and cassettes, variety of packaged cards from the 80s/90s, and other fun things. Great curation, all great quality.
Genuinely happy owner and staff, everyone was authentically friendly. During my time there, a bunch of people came in who were known by the staff. Good neighborhood vibe. It makes a difference.
What I had on my first visit today…
Cheese & spinach bureka - light, fluffy, thin crispy layers of pastry filled with multiple cheeses and spinach, topped with sesame seeds. Wonderful.
Cinnamon babka - moist, sweet, perfectly spiced.
Ruby match cookie - red chocolate?? What? Yes! Not chocolate that is dyed red. It’s a different/special kind of chocolate. How have I not known about this?!
Butter pecan cookie - like the ice cream, but in cookie form, and better.
A latte and a double espresso - again, high quality ingredients. Yum.
I took home a cinnamon roll to eat later.
I have such a cafe crush on...
Read moreThis place is the definition of greatness. It’s a gem in the sense that it’s so well-balanced in every way you could hope for when looking for a café. First and most importantly, the food is very good- after years of ordering there, the quality has never dipped below the best every time. Second, the atmosphere is lovely- it manages to be cozy and inviting simultaneously, and when paired with how genuinely friendly the owner is, there’s a great chance you’re going to walk out smiling. Any time I’m there I can truly feel that the owner loves what he does and authentically cares about his customers. You can see for yourself how obvious it is- watch him! Also, he bakes a huge majority of the pastries fresh every morning, and many items you will not find anywhere else in the neighborhood.
As a side note, what I personally love is the option for sandwiches or even just veggies in one of my personal favorites, the Israeli Salad- and it’s worth mentioning that the aforementioned are all amazing and the best quality. The bread of the sandwiches is divine, and the veggies are the freshest you could wish for.
Overall, I feel this place is so special- it’s great at what it sets out to do, personable and cozy, and has a vibe completely it’s own.
10/10 - take your family and friends and try anything. It will...
Read moreI recently stopped into yard sale cafe in Brooklyn and was extremely disappointed with my experience. I will say that the vibe is really cute and inviting. The decor and yard sale theme is super cute. But…that’s about it as far as positives.
First, the coffee tasted burnt and bitter. A waste of money, as my drink went right to the trash. Despite the high prices, the quality of the food did not justify the cost. I felt like I was overpaying for mediocre offerings. There is a bakery on every corner…this place is really pricing themselves out.
There is also nowhere to sit, which is inconvenient. You can’t even enjoy your overpriced bureka or your bone dry babka in store.
In the mere minutes I was inside, I witnessed, who I assume to be the owner, speaking to the employees in the most condescending and disrespectful manner. To the point that it made me uncomfortable. I tried to lighten the mood by asking the assumed owner a question and he gave me the same disrespectful attitude!
Overall, my visit to Yard Sale Bakery was a letdown. I could probably get better coffee and baked goods from a yard sale on my block. I won’t be returning.
I am giving the service three stars because the staff (not the owner) was really...
