My family and I checked in Saturday evening, prior to checking in we tried contacting the hotel to alert them of our late arrival and confirm a few details of our reservation. We called for several days no one picked up, so I decided to call reservations and finally reached a live agent who was able to assist us. The check in was pretty smooth. However, we didn’t learn about the fitness center, WiFi or breakfast until we were at the end of our stay. We had 3 rooms, one room had dirty towels and linens, another room thermostat was not working, and another room lamp did not work. We also didn’t receive the handicap accessible room we’ve requested. Due to us checking in Saturday evening we didn’t make a big deal out of any of the minor issues we’ve ran into. Around 3am, a room directly next door to my mothers room was having a fight, they were arguing for a few hours, then things got physical around 5am, a woman was screaming for dear life. The entire 4th floor could now hear. My mother tried calling the front desk and no one answered, I then called and then my sister again no one answered. We all heard the screams, other guests were then in the hallway and said the same. I personally stopped by the front desk just to notice no one was working behind the desk. My mother contacted the police and we were advised to stay in our room and that they are on the way. Before the police arrived the “couple” left. An employee arrived around 7am. Once my family and I finally reached someone at the desk they explained that they have received the complaint and they’ll be walking the floor. For a few hours no one was behind the desk or answering the phone. The lady that walked in at 7am was speechless and clearly not trained for situations as such. The phones were still ringing of course as the entire 4th floor was concerned about the woman’s safety. She seemed to be very frustrated with working alone and under pressure as several guests called and complained. She continued to say “I’m quitting”. My mother requested a manager since she hadn’t slept all night long, my niece (a small child) was also terrified, she heard all of the commotion too. The manager didn’t come in until Monday morning. We were able to speak to her regarding our experience. She was flat out a poor excuse for a manger. She said “it’s not her fault, there’s nothing she can do and that she cannot control what goes on inside of the rooms”. She then tried to downplay what went on and belittle my mothers lack of sleep and the issue overall. Completely unacceptable! She then offered us complimentary parking for the night, which all parking was full, which she knew already because they keep a log. We ended up having to find parking around the corner. The next day we were told by a few employees that this type of behavior was normal for this property. If we weren’t spending close to $2,000 for our stay and staying at a motel then it would be a bit understandable, but that wasn’t the case here. To know that domestic disputes goes on often is just beyond me. So then on Tuesday another one of the rooms thermostat went out, 2/3 of the rooms thermostat/outlets went in and out. We called the desk around 10:00pm they told us they would call us back and hung up. They didn’t ask for a room number or anything. We then called back since no one called back or sent maintenance or even an employee up to check it out, they then told us that people are checking in and that they would have to call us back AGAIN. We called again then they told us that they turned on the central air and to wait a few minutes, to call back if we don’t feel the cool air. This place is a joke. We travel often mostly Marriott brands, I’m high status there and they would never allow such ridiculousness. Marriotts were sold out in Brooklyn area. I/We will never stay here again. The entire staff is by far the most unprofessional I’ve...
Read moreCons: The water took wayyy too long to heat up. Someone came to the room to check and would barely listen to what we were saying since at that point the water was warming up. What we were trying to explain was that it took at least 10-15mins for the water to get to that point with both the sink and shower. We eventually called the front desk again to explain our issue but they were a bit dismissive saying it was normal. There was no phone service on floor CR. We had to leave the room and go to the lobby to make calls. Majority of the outlets in the room did not work. Our phones could be on the charger for an hour and the most we would get was 5% more battery, sometimes it even seemed like out battery was decreasing. We relied on portable chargers and chargers in the Uber’s to keep our items from dying. The AC/heating was difficult to use. Even though our visit was end of April/beginning of May, it was still very cold in NYC. We had a lot of difficulty figuring how to properly adjust the settings so we could be comfortable in the room. Admittedly we could’ve asked front desk but we were on the go a lot. The hotel did not serve cooked breakfast. All we got was a paper bag with fruit and a muffin. You had to pick it up from the lobby in the morning. For the price we paid to stay here they absolutely could’ve offered better. After a certain point in the day you cannot get water from the dining room area, causing you to have to purchase a bottle from the hotel. Again, something I didn’t feel was fair for the price paid. Pros: The water situation aside, staff were extremely nice and kind. Felt comfortable approaching them to ask questions. The location was very quiet. I felt safe coming and going at night. We did not do a lot of walking around the area but from what we saw from the main entrance, there didn’t seem to be a lot around. Our room was directly underneath a window and we still didn’t hear any noise at night. Just be careful that you close the blinds when changing since you can’t really see whose out there. Hotel was modern, not sure when it was originally built but I’d be surprised if it was more than 5yrs old. Everything was extremely clean. From the halls, to the elevator, to the kitchen/dining area. Cleanest hotel I’ve been in in a while.
Overall it was a very nice hotel. I was comfortable for the most part and wouldn’t mind staying here again if I needed to. I just feel like for the money we paid there were a few things that could’ve...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised by this Comfort Inn location. Typically I think of this franchise as a lower end hotel. The reason I gave it four stars because I think of "five star hotels as the top luxury available. Within it's brand and price-range this is one of the best options I've seen but I wouldn't consider it that "five star" experience.
It appears that it was recently remodeled and the room, while small, was nice. The bathroom was extremely clean and the showerhead had decent water pressure. I did get a little confused by the thermostat because I couldn't figure out what the "dry" meant and the snowflake icon looked similar to the sun icon for AC and heat but the room's temperature was comfortable so I obviously set it correctly.
There was a time at night where after I turned the TV off, I could hear mumbled but loud conversations through the wall. Surprisingly though, earlier in the day I didn't hear the construction sounds coming from outside. I'm not sure why the exterior walls blocked sound but not the interior but that was my experience. Again, in NYC you expect to hear sounds and it's never going to be silent.
As mentioned in other reviews, parking was $35+tax per night. For the two nights, I paid $77.26 after tax. Honestly that's not terrible for NYC and they did tell me where I could find street parking but the area that wasn't 2-hour meter seemed more like a junk yard under the bridge than a safe place to park so I choose to use the hotel's lot. Both nights of my stay, there were other spots available but it was mid-week so the weekends/busy times might be different. My only complaint about parking wasn't the hotels fault. Next to the lot's exit was "no parking/no standing" but people ignored it and left vehicles parked on the street. It was difficult to turn out of the lot onto the street with the tight squeeze and low visibility of oncoming cars.
I also saw other reviews mention great views but I'm assuming that's the higher floors. I was on one and my view was the parking lot.
Breakfast was as expected of a free hotel breakfast. They had a waffle iron, cereal, scrambled eggs, and sausage patties. Along with bagels/bread,...
