New Korean gem in Sunnyside! Generally, the price, interior, location, and taste was excellent and I would recommend coming here! The Korean food in this area isn't plentiful unless you're willing to travel to Elmhurst, Flushing (and beyond), or Ktown. There are things to be improved for sure, but I would come again.
The food: as you can see, we ordered a ton!
-free banchan (every Korean restaurant does this and it is free and refillable): it was okay, not the best compared to others I've had in bayside and ktown. We liked the marinated onions/jalapeños and kimchi, which tasted light and fresh (my preference). The potato salad was not good and the rest were alright but not memorable. Steamed egg had a hint of dashi stock and was decent! I will note that the service was not amazing so we had to very proactively ask for refills of our banchan a few times but don't be afraid to speak up! -appetizers: japchae was very sweet so I suggest skipping this if you're like me and not a fan of sweet noodles; rolled egg omelet was just okay, don't think I'd pay $10 for it again; kimchi pancake was good! Found myself going back for seconds. -mains: beef short ribs are a classic Korean dish and they were pretty good here. My dad thought they were tough but others in the party disagreed so perhaps some pieces were tougher than others?
Spicy pork was my favorite. It wasn't overly sweet or tough, although the spice was very very mild. Loved eating this paired with the kimchi to balance it out.
Tofu stews: we tried two flavors (seafood & beef and kimchi & beef) at spice level Hot and they were good. The price is right at $14.95 and they bring a raw egg to crack into it. This was served boiling hot and is a classic.
Beef bibimbap: the individual components were a little bland but also a classic. We started adding more and more of the gochujang but it became pretty spicy. This was fine bc we eat spice, but for someone who doesn't eat spicy food, maybe add some more salt and sesame oil so it's not so unseasoned?
Grilled mackeral: mixed opinions on this, it was grilled pretty hard because it was a tad dry, but the flavor was good.
Service: staff were really nice, but could be more attentive. We had to proactively ask for banchan to be refilled, water refills, tea refills, plates to be cleared, etc. I got the hot tea but did not enjoy as it was super weak (reminded me of lukewarm dish water haha). Unlike the barley tea I'm used to. Also, they initially charged us for an extra bowl of rice even though we never ordered one, and the girl counting our cash counted it wrong but the manager/owner fixed both of these issues. They are newer and probably still working out some kinks.
Note: there's a cash discount of 3.99%. Also, the prices were generally very good. The beef short ribs were $27 and tofu stews $15. All of our food came out to a...
Read moreWhen I first came here last year, the service and food was great. Came here again last week and it was so shockingly bad that my whole family was asking why we even picked this place to eat. The food quality was decent but not as great as I remembered it. The customer service was disgusting to say the least. The waiter, a chubby older man with very little hair, never smiled, never said hi to us. He also sat us at an empty table and didn't provide any water or utensils. We sat there for half hour and had to hunt him down to ask him to take our order. But he looked really bothered when we asked. The food finally came after another half hour. No utensils or beverages. So I went to ask if we can all get some utensils and napkins. He rolled his eyes at me and walked off without saying anything (YES he rolled his eyes). Granted, it was a busy night, but it was no excuse for him to act like this.
I proceeded to go grab my own utensils since they were all in a box in the back of the room, but was stopped by another waiter who seemed nicer and told me he would bring them to me. I saw the chubby, older, and less hair waiter later and asked him again to bring me water. He asked, "tea or water?" I said water, but my cousin chimed in and said he want tea instead. He rolled his eyes (AGAIN!) and asked in a very hostile tone "tea or water??!!". Can we have both? I told him. He mumbled something under his breath and walked away. 5 minutes later, a different and nicer waiter came to give us water and tea.
I suspect the chubby and less hair waiter is the manager since he was ordering the other waiters to bring us water and tea. I wanted to go up to him to ask who is the manager and that his behavior tonight was very rude. But my cousins stopped me and said to just let it go and not ruin our mood. In summary, DO NOT come to this place and there are plenty of other great Korean restaurants around where your money gets you both good food and...
Read more@ziggle_nyc - located 38-04 Queens Blvd - Long Island City . Hot Stone Plate - By far the best bibimbap I have ever had. It comes in a flat plate vs your traditional hot bowl… the presentation alone speaks volumes… you get to choose your main (we chose beef)… it was so good, you gotta let the rice sit so that it becomes crispy, which is the best part… they really load up on the ingredients, like a generous amount.. each ingredient is good on its own and when you mix the flavors and textures, it’s truly one of the kind bibimbap… highly recommend this… it comes with the red sauce but you don’t really need it. For me, most places lack flavor so I add it for flavor. But you can sure add for that extra spice/kick.. . LA Galbi - Beef Short Ribs.. Who doesn’t love short ribs? Unless your vegetarian I suppose. At @ziggle_nyc it was a mountain full, and it was thick, tender and juicy.. it’s a dish you cannot go wrong i ordering… . Soft Tofu Stew - they have 20 different kinds of tofu stew and 5 levels of spiciness. We got the seafood with the middle spice level… it was just the right amount of spiciness I can tolerate… tofu was very silky… the rice is cooked in a stainless steel pot and not ceramic… it was very good, but once again, let it sit so that rice crisps up… . They have complimentary banchan which were all very good and they replenish upon request - oh, they give you steamed egg with any order.. . You can easily miss the restaurant as they are located inside a complex/plaza.. they do have a sign outside and when you walk in, go straight and you’ll see the restaurant.. it is very spacious with high ceilings.. they also have a couple of private rooms as well… It is a very modern feel… . Side note - they have a Flushing location but I have never been but I’ll be sure to check them out 🤦🏻♀️ . Thank you @ziggle_nyc for the meal and your...
