September/2020: School would be a great school if you are into the Aviation maintenance and career like setting. Due to current circumstances, the school feels like it is draining the life out of me. I will try to write more later as the year goes on, but it's okay.
March/2021 Edit: A few months in, and this school is NOT for learning to pilot aircraft. It's to learn to fix them. I knew this was coming in, but most did not. Anyway, this school is stressful because it's pretty challenging. It's more or less an advanced high school with a shop class for each student (that's where you learn about aircraft). It's still just okay and not bad. I also actually still haven't been in the building. More to write is coming soon.
9/18/2021 Edit 2: I just finished my first week of sophomore year in person! Aviation is really cool as a school and does not disappoint in person, especially because of the aviation maintenance technician (AMT) classes you take. Guidance offices are easy to get in touch with if you have any questions or need help at all. You will take 8 periods of school per day, in which 3/8 of your classes per day are for AMT. The rest are for other subjects. AP classes are available for anyone sophomore+ (freshman can't take AP classes, unfortunately). There are also sports you can sign up for as well. Some are the following but not limited to: Bowling, track and field, soccer, volleyball, ECT. Since I'm only in my first week, there is not much to say. I'll update again after this year!
8/11/2022 Edit 3: Ended my sophomore year and going into my junior year. This school is great on both sides of it. The AMT courses teach a variety of topics whether you are interested in going into the aviation field or not. The teachers of the academic side are all great. I am currently an Honor Society member within the school and also one of the leading members. The events within this school are all great, for example, our carnival we had at the start of the school year. I find this school to be a great environment with great people. I'm aiming to get into the 5th year program to achieve both licenses. Next school update after 2022 winter break!
2/16/2023 Edit 4: It is a new year! I am about halfway through my junior year, and I have been stressful, honestly. Managing my work-life balance with my need for sleep is a challenge. I completed Basic Powerplant and learned about the importance of both reciprocating engines and jet engines! Did you know that the main reason why engines use different fuel types is for power ratings? Or the reciprocating engines have 4 stages happening within different cylinders while a jet engine constantly fires? Even with the stress of school, I'm still finding some way to enjoy it and make time for myself. I also signed up for the 5th year program, and I'm hoping to get accepted! I am looking forward to updating you after I complete my Basic Airframe class!
7/8/2023 Edit 5: I pride myself on being honest and transparent when it comes to writing this, so It comes hard for me to say that I currently did not get selected for 5th year. I'm striving to get into the program during the second wave, but there's no guarantee for anything. I'm working on making up a single finale exam, but besides that, I'm now a rising senior. It hasn't felt like 4 years, but it almost is. To anyone reading this, I believe you're going to prosper next year. If I could make it this far, you're going to. Oh, right, basic airframe is all about sheet metals and processes to...

This school is for Aircraft MAINTENANCE, Not education for being a Plane Pilot, This is for colleges and academies. +
This school also has a strict vetting process if you want to be accepted, you gotta have good grades and good behavior and you will have hard classes atleast for mathematics. Also, This school does NOT ACCEPT TRANSFER STUDENTS. Even if you are a freshman, transferring here is rare.
This school is unique, and isn't like any other regular high school but it depends on what you want as a career or profession. This school focuses exclusively on aircraft maintenance and plays a huge role within your grades and schedule, it's a pretty big deal so if your not interested in that you either accept that (and find a hobby you never knew you wanted) or find another school. There's a great principal, good teachers and faculty, and mostly mature students.
However, If you attend you may notice there is no abundance of tools, and it is quite noticeable that there is a lack of funds for the FAA Program too, and for main tests like Regents and SAT's there is a lack of preparation and practice for students. Also, schedules and days can be very along, people can stay upwards to 5 PM.
If you are interested in tech, Go to a Vocational school. If you are REALLY interested in Aviation mechanics, Apply here but this school is demanding in terms of grades and maturity.
(P.S, This school acts as a mini college and has good programs especially for...
Read moreIn short, besides the few staff that genuinely try to better you not only as a mechanic but as a person, aviation is severely lacking. The program is EXTREMELY underfunded, and the school barely has the proper resources to prepare its students for the oral and practical exam. Lack of tools and resources to train your students rarely works out well. Also, someone needs to look into the DMEs in aviation highschool. A lot of shady business takes place behind closed doors and ultimately it only hurts the students. It has become more about making the quick money off of an applicant than anything else. But hey, when the man who oversees the entire program is part of the problem, who do you complain to? Its also sad for the dedicated shop teachers who strive everyday to keep the love for the industry alive only to be provided with barely half of the resources to teach their students unless they pay for the tools themselves. All in all, if there are not changes made i would be surprised if the aircraft maintenance program makes it...
