I recently visited the Peruvian restaurant **Perú Taypa**, and while the food was flavorful and fresh, the overall experience was marred by poor service, which made my visit less enjoyable. We ordered **arroz chaufa de pollo**, **tallarines verdes with steak**, and a **jalea de pescado and seafood**. As far as the food goes, I have no complaints – everything was well-prepared and tasted authentic. However, the **jalea de pescado and seafood** was disappointing. There was no fish in the dish, just **calamari**, which made it feel like it lacked the variety of seafood one would expect in such a dish. The biggest negative was the **customer service**. The waiter only approached us to take our order, bring the food, and hand us the check. In other words, we saw him three times throughout the entire meal. The lack of effort to provide good service was clear. In places like this, one expects a more attentive and engaging experience, especially with such delicious traditional food. But the service was lacking. We started to think that the **poor service** might be due to the fact that they automatically add a **15% tip**, which seems to reduce their motivation to go the extra mile in providing a pleasant experience. They don’t realize that this hurts the restaurant’s image, and it becomes an important factor when deciding whether or not to return. To make matters worse, **if you pay with a card, there's a 4% surcharge**, which is an inconvenient detail not mentioned upfront. This, without a doubt, added to the feeling that the restaurant isn't focused on providing a complete and enjoyable experience for its customers. In summary, the food was good, but the terrible service and additional charges for paying with a card make me hesitant to return. There's a lot of potential in this place, but the service experience needs significant improvement.

I attended this restaurant with my family on Wednesday to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. First, parking is terrible; I had to drive around to locate a spot (which is common in Newark). The establishment is small and charming, with live music. We ordered drinks and waited at least 20 minutes for 5 cocktail drinks; beer arrived faster. Then we ordered 8 dishes: 2 chaufas, 2 arroz con mariscos, 2 tallarines verdes, 2 lomos carne, 1 jalea, and 1 tallarin saltado (which was changed 30 minutes later for a pescado frito because they ran out of spaguetti). The majority of the dishes took a long time to arrive, but the pescado frito took more than 50 minutes (for which they did not charge). The beverages were good, and our server was pleasant and constantly apologized for the late service. The food was acceptable, with generous servings that don't justify the food quality or serving time.

I LOVE this restaurant. It has a nice ambiance, and even nicer food. I visited for the first time around when they first opened and I must admit I was pretty skeptical at the time, since the food was good but the service was horrible. However, I decided to give them another chance and I am so glad I did. They have improved significantly since then. The food is still good, but it doesn't take that long to get it now. It tends to be really busy on the weekends, and the music is usually very loud since they invite singers to perform. So if you are someone who prefers a more quiet space, maybe visit on weekdays. As a Peruvian, it has been hard to find good authentic restaurants to eat at, but Peru Taypa satisfied me. I ate the Tallarines a la Huacaina and they were heavenly. The sauce was PERFECTION. The portion was so filling; I left the restaurant feeling I was going to explode! Overall, a nice place with amazing Peruvian food, 100% would recommend.

This place has so much potential! Unfortunately, despite the high end feel and decor, and nicely plated food with decent flavor, it felt unorganized. The front of the house can definitely do better.

If I may I do have recommendations, when we walked in there were multiple people at the bar area it's the first thing you see. However instead of having people that are possibly making it look super cool and elegant and high-end with a bartender mixing drinks, it was being used more as an admin desk and Prep Station. They had a bunch of papers all over, they were rolling up silverware right on top I just looked messy and cluttered and this is the first impression I got because it's right in front of your face as soon as you open the door. Then right next to the door there were boxes of soda in the middle of the way someone could actually trip over them if they just stepped to the right without looking.

Then as soon as you come in they just tell you to sit wherever you like. And we, as customers we're trying to figure out which tables to put together in order to fit our group. if they had a Hostess right the whole atmosphere and entrance experience would feel so much more High scale.

The other part where it felt chaotic was that it felt like waitresses were not assigned specific tables instead they were running around all over the place and trying to get anyone's attention was difficult because it feels like they are spread out super thin. Don't get me wrong they are attentive once they actually finally get to your table but getting them to your table was difficult period. I must say there was an older gentleman possibly the owner who was going above and beyond to make sure that all the tables were clean and everyone was getting their attention but it also seemed like he was the only one who had full eyes on everything and was being worn thin.

As far as food, it was good, fresh, flavor profiles could have been a little bit better for the chicken, the skin felt a little soggy but the flavor was there. I do hope that they are able to grow and do better because I can see them become a very...

I went here with my family for dinner on a Friday night. The location looks great very stylish and the staff were very friendly but that’s all the positive notes I can give about this restaurant. The problems we encounter were serious.

After placing our order, it took a long time for our food to be served and when they did serve us the food one of the orders was extremely late. My order was a lomo saltado with tacu tacu, my mom ordered a pescado a lo macho, my cousin ordered a bisté a lo pobre, and my aunt ordered a fried fish. My order, my mother’s, and my cousin were served 45min to after we ordered my aunts dish which was the simplest of all 4 orders was served 20 to 30 minutes after we were served and the staff was not able to give us a reason for the delay. All they said was that we are working on it.

As for the food it was okay but it was nothing amazing to merit the delay or the prices. What is lacking in the restaurant is they need more waiters to help take orders and manage the tables also I believe the kitchen and possibly the kitchen staff is not big enough to serve a full restaurant full of customers.

They use the outside patio to expand the size of the restaurant but I don’t believe the kitchen can keep up with that size of a crowd. They definitely have to rethink their strategy on how the plan to serve that many people, either by limiting the menu or by increasing the capacity of the kitchen. Because it doesn’t matter how nice a restaurant looks if the customer has to wait a long time for the food it defeats the main function of the restaurant.

I’d recommend going here for appetizers and drinks, but if you’re looking for a full dinner be prepared to wait and for the food to be...
