Nasu Japanese Steakhouse — Restaurant in Newport

Ok, I 1st want to say I love their food very good. But the service we had today was very awful. For my little cousin birthday who turned 17 we had a reservation we had two tables and our server we had were very rude and nasty. I don’t know what was his name but I told him I had wanted 2 to go orders plus one dining in so as I was ordering my to go orders he was mean mugging me like I was stupid. He also started to put his hands in my face being sarcastic and what’s so crazy is that I had a birthday dinner here back in December and he was very nice then but I think because teens were included plus children, he wasn’t really patient with us at all. Our drinks came late and so did our soups and salads. The food was really great and the chef we had was very awesome. Attitude was great. Also, police were called because one of the ladies said to us “You’re not going to pay, I’m gonna report you “ and we all were trying to pay but the problem was it was extra tip money involved they're not supposed to charge to go orders or just put extra tips on our orders basically trying to scam us out of our money. My other family member she had her kids with her and the lady starts chasing her kids bc of we didn’t want to “pay” and they were also being racist too. It is sad to say I will not be returning to Nasu ever again because of me and my family experience. I will go to another hibachi place that will treat us better. Take care and maybe you guys won’t scam us out of our money trying to add on extra money to our bill for whatever reason but it doesn’t work like that...

There were 4 of us. Two of us had calamari, soft shell crab, and specialty sushi roll for appetizers..4 main courses were all hibachi ...1) lobster, 2) Fillet and shrimp, 3) chicken, 4) steak and shrimp. Hibachi meals comes with soup, salad, Japanese fried rice, grilled veggies.

The steak, shrimp, chicken, Japanese fried rice, and grilled veggies were very good. The salad would have been good if there was more dressing and if the dressing wasn't watered down..I think they may make up the salads in advance and then put dressing on right before they serve it which leads to condensation mixing in with the small amount of dressing. The soup was light but good.

All the appetizers were presented fairly well. Putting them on chopped iceberg lettuce took away from the presentation The fried calamari was prepared really well and the dipping sauce was good. Unfortunately, the calamari was old. The same for the soft shell crab. The crazy tuna roll was very little tuna and the tuna was not fresh.

I would stay away from the seafood.

The hibachi chef skills need a lot of improvement...banging spatulas on the edge and lighting the oil isn't a show.

If you are going to charge for hibachi the amount you do it should be...

We had hibachi here the other nighr and we did not have a good experience. Our cook used way too much oil in the food, to the point where hot oil spitting at the people at the table. My fiance had small burns on their arm from this. I've never had this happen at hibachi. On top of the initial fire line the cook did on the grill came straight at myself and my fiance, at an unsafe distance. If I had been leaning even slightly forward, I can guarantee my hair would have been singed. The hibachi cook also didn't do the fun interactive stuff usual hibachi chefs do, which is a part of the experience that is hibachi. The food was also overly greasy and under seasoned. Our waitress came across as rude and hardly checked on the table. Not to mention her straight up ignoring one of the other people at the table until I got her attention. I'm really not the type to leave bad reviews but this was extremely disappointing and I won't be doing hibachi here ever again.

On the other hand, we have had sushi here before (multiple times) and it is very good. The good experiences ive had with this is the only reason im not giving 1 star. So if you're going to come here, don't do the hibachi. Just get a regular...
