So other than a couple super specific things that they don’t carry and I wish they would (i.e., metal sectional frames, canvas stretchers, blank stencil sheets, Montana spray paints) they have a great selection for most every crafty project you can think of. I usually go in with a purpose to pick up something or other, and leave with that along with supplies for at least two or three new hobbies.
The absolute best kept secret is the “practice/ooops/abandoned/sample sale” frames in the back of the custom framing area (on the wall by the work table and employee work area) - they sell these professionally made custom frames for just $8 apiece regardless of the size. While there are no guarantees as to what they’ll have in rotation at any given time, I have picked up some downright massive high-quality frames as well as several matched sets for next to nothing on multiple occasions. The app is a good source of rewards and discounts, especially if you’re an educator, veteran, or first responder. Can also be worth swinging through the kid section for less expensive versions of certain...
Read moreThis is the Newport, Kentucky #michaels store. It is part of the Kroger/Target shopping plaza on Grand Avenue just off of the S l-471 exit. I have been here twice in the past two months but only briefly. Although I'm into getting any #arts&crafts supplies I have observed that this is a busy store most of time. The two or more store associates I've seen at the checkout area have all been friendly and helpful and when not needed at the checkout counter have been on another store task. With at least 2 #covid safe contact spots at the counter the line moves relatively fast. If you want gift cards, impulse items, a clearance section for fun browsing & #jarcandles this can also be found at the front of the store. I didn't wonder toward the back of the store but I observed all the aisles with their signs identifying all the stuff you need for fun home craft projects! Until next time be kind to each other. #michaels #newport @yelpcincy #arts&crafts...
Read moreGoing to Michaels always feels like kind of a scam considering they are overpriced and have a very shoddy selection of real fine art supplies. But alas... I have no other options unless I want to take a 30 minute drive, and waiting for an online order isn't always an option as a work-from-home artist.
Also, the employees know little about the products they sell and their various applications. EVERY TIME I'm in the store I end up escorting people around and helping them find what they need. And there have even been a few times I have had to step in and correct advice that an employee is giving to a newb crafter. Like suggesting a water-based sealant to finish a coffee...
