Might be my favorite bookstore I’ve ever visited!!! And that’s saying something- I’ve been to tons, I love to read, and I’m picky about bookstores. I spent over an hour here just browsing and chatting with a kind and friendly employee named Joe. We both enthusiastically shared book recs back and forth and bonded over titles we’ve already enjoyed. I found new ones to love, authors I follow online, hot books all over social media, covers that I’ve seen on the internet, and even illustrators who are blowing up right now. The curation of materials in this store is CLEARLY well thought out and VERY on trend. It didn’t feel trendy though, just inclusive and bright and diverse. It made me excited to read! Both floors, the various age level rooms, and each labelled section all had personalized book recommendations from the staff- which I took many pictures of! But, that said, there are still plenty of good books on the main level and I'm sure staff would help retrieve something downstairs if...
Read moreI found Charter Books on a recent trip to Newport and was enthralled by their cozy space and helpful staff recommendation book summaries. But what really won me over was that this bookstore had actual, comfortable seating and no one bothered me as I browsed (and browsed). In other bookstores, I have been accustomed to being accosted with a slightly annoyed 'Can I help you?' if I try to flip through books for too long. But at this one, due to to both the space and the staff, I felt free to take as long as I needed to browse and pour through books. That makes this...
