This is a difficult review to write because the review is actually based solely on the owner not on the employee or the product being reviewed. The ice cream is very good there are lots of flavors and they're all homemade. The worker was kind courteous respectful and pleasant definitely service with a smile. The owner, another story. I entered the shop with my daughter and the employee greeted us into the store. We asked questions about the ice cream and we're deciding on a flavor to choose. When I was complimenting the ice cream and how it looked amazing the employee stated at that moment the owner opened the door and she said " they're all hand packed and made by the owner and here she is now." I turned around and looked at the owner and said hello and complimented her on her store and her ice cream.
We each sampled a flavor and chose our ice cream flavors. We tipped the server and exited the shop. there were chairs and a table to our left which is where we sat briefly while I could pull up some information on my phone about other activities to do in the area as we had one hour parking. I sat in the chair my daughter sat in another and our dog sat to the left of me as she's trained to do. I happen to be in front of /very close to the door of the business next door. There was another young lady sitting at the table behind us doing some leisure work on her computer and drinking her coffee. The owner from the ice cream shop exited the ice cream shop and attempted to enter the store next door which is where I was sitting there I said oh excuse me I'm sorry and I moved the dog a little closer to me as she was a little too far in front of the door. The owner looked at me and said "this is a business you know. "And walked in the business. I looked at her and the lady that was sitting behind me her exact words were "that was harsh ."I looked at her and said I know, I think she's the owner of the ice cream place next door. I was just in there and ordered ice cream and I even tipped heavily. The girl behind me said well they have just lost one more customer. I said the ice cream was really good and she said that after seeing how the owner treated me and my animal that she would not go and get ice cream there. so although the ice cream was good and it was homemade they are not the only good homemade ice cream stores in Rhode Island and there's even one down the street from her in Newport that was actually better than her at seaside scoops.
We will not be back and I hope the employee finds a new place to work where she will be treated...

Read moreTL; DR left unhappy because of a stingy one taste per customer rule.
I’ve been hemming and hawing over whether or not to write this review, but 4 days later and I’m still bothered.
My husband and I got ice cream at Get the Scoop on Saturday evening after going to the movies at the Jane Pickett. We don’t live in Newport and didn’t know the scene, but saw an independent shop with 5 star reviews and thought we should go.
We waited in line behind one other couple. Once it was our turn to try flavors and order, the woman working behind the counter immediately said “just so you know, it’s one taste test per person.” So we decided to try the heath bar and a cherry flavor. The tastes were tiny and we were trying to share them (which honestly we always do, but especially since we would only get these two tastes before ordering). The tasters were teeny tiny and impossible to really share.
I truthfully didn’t like either flavor. So I asked the woman working what she liked and she said the lemon or coconut. I ordered the coconut and it was fine. To me, all the flavors kinda tasted waxy.
As someone who has worked at an ice cream shop and likes to go out for ice cream, I get that it is inconvenient to give taste tests to your customers, but it’s kinda the norm. And since we don’t know your products, I would have liked to try more and leave picking something i was psyched about. Overall was just kinda a bummer experience and I wondered if we should have just gone to Ben & Jerry’s which I was trying to avoid because I’d rather try something new.
Is this a store policy? Was that worker just annoyed and taking something out on us?
Ice cream is a fun thing. Your customers are going to order stuff. Let them try a couple flavors so they can leave happy. Very few people are going to ask for more than 2...
