This truly is a gem. I lived in Europe (Germany specifically) for about 18 years, and I’ve missed European food/Italian food since coming back to the US. This place is amazing! And very authentic. The atmosphere is peaceful and NOT rushed. Just like Europe. The owner was super friendly and the pasta he made (special of the day) was the best pasta I ever had. My husband had one of the sandwiches, and the bread was perfectly crunchy and light, and the flavors mouth watering. My husband and I both agree this sandwich was one of the best we both ever tasted in our lives. Everything was fresh and the quantity was perfect. We also had the pistachio ricotta cake. It was perfect. I forgot to take a photo because after trying the other food, not going to lie, I just wanted to dig in. Totally worth it, no regrets. It was very light and perfect desert after a meal that stuffs you. He then gave us an extra treat of a type of funnel cake. Again, it was perfect. I’ve been to many different restaurants all over the world and few would I rate as my top favorites. This one by far is the best Italian restaurant I’ve ever been to (including the ones I’ve been to in Europe.) and the ones their are amazing too, so to say this tops even those is amazing. So happy to have found this place and will definitely return with family, friends, and on anniversary’s. Also, a side note. We had our two year old with us, and the owner showed us some toys for her to enjoy so we could enjoy our date together. It was really nice, and she absolutely loved jt as well. 💕 cannot say enough good about this place! If you’re on fence about going, just go. This place has good food, peaceful atmosphere, and quality customer service.

Amale Tre Focacciaria feels like stepping through a portal straight into Italy. It is family-run in the truest sense; on my visit I counted three generations working in concert, shaping dough, assembling sandwiches, and keeping the line moving with calm precision. The cadence of Italian drifting from the back, the children playing in the common area, and the warm welcome at the counter created an atmosphere that transported me to Northern Italy, which tracks given the family's roots in Milano. The food is extraordinary. Everything is made in-house, from the pesto to the mozzarella to the bread. The focaccia is pillowy with a light crisp at the edges and just the right sheen of good olive oil. The porchettina sandwich is a showstopper - deeply savory, herb-fragrant, and balanced so that every bite has texture and lift rather than heaviness. The chicken sandwich on ciabatta, which could so easily be ordinary elsewhere, was anything but: juicy, seasoned with restraint, and composed to let the bread and bird sing together. I have had great sandwiches in American cities known for them, but what Amale is doing is rare here. It reads as Italian first and only incidentally American, which is exactly why it stands out. This is destination-worthy food. If you live in or near Norfolk, make a point of going. If you are passing through, detour for it. Two of the best sandwiches I have had in years, served with heart, craft, and a sense of place.

Amale Tre Focacceria is truly a hidden gem in Norfolk, VA, delivering an authentic taste of Europe right to our doorstep. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by a warm atmosphere and friendly staff who make you feel right at home. Their dedication to customer service is evident, and they go above and beyond to ensure a delightful dining experience. The focaccia here is unlike any other. Each bite bursts with freshness, thanks to high-quality ingredients that showcase the flavors of Italy. The toppings, like fresh tomatoes, arugula, and shaved parmesan, are perfectly balanced, allowing the natural flavors to shine. And that drizzle of olive oil? Pure perfection! The focaccia’s texture is spot on, with a crispy exterior and soft, fluffy interior that transports you to a cozy cafe in the heart of Europe. Amale Tre Focacceria is a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic European experience in Norfolk. The combination of exquisite flavors, fresh ingredients, and outstanding service makes it a culinary destination worth revisiting time and again. Bravo!
