I thought long and hard before writing this review, I couldnât shake off the fact that some of the staff I encountered were unprofessional, unpleasant and lacks knowledge.
I brought my daughter to TCC Norfolk after her high school counselor recommended them. I wanted her to attend a different college where I went and had the most amazing experience but a few church folks claim that TCC was a good start.
My daughter had applied on line and then when we went to the school, the security that we encountered sent us to the wrong building after we explained who we were there to see. My daughter just left high school and was really trying to navigate their online system after our first visit. We were supposed to get FAFSA updated and return. After we returned after two weeks, she was turned away because her passport had just expired a few days ago, which proved that she is a U.S. citizen. When they had told us that the passport was needed when we first went, they would have been able to use it since it was unexpired. She acquired her citizenship through me. Thatâs the only document she has to prove that she is a U.S. citizen. We brought her drivers permit and all other IDs including military dependent ID, but she was turned away. The financial aid advisor, an older African American woman was very, very mean and unprofessional and was talking to me angrily until she turned away and left us behind as if we werenât still standing there. After we left I felt hurt and I called the school and ask why someone didnât help her with the to-do list since she was new to the system, also, I had tried to help her. The representative told me clearly in an I donât care voice that they donât call students to help, even when they are first timers. What made matters worse was when I suggested that maybe thatâs something they might need to look into to help new students out of high school. She nonchalantly said, âyeah, we will never do that.â
Business places normally ask for ways that they can improve but this female was adamant that they would never make changes. I was really taken aback about the way they treated the situation. Way to treat a veteran. I am still so disappointed, now it will take 4-6 weeks to renew my daughterâs passport, meaning, she will not be able to attend this semester.
I refuse to allow people like those to stop my me from moving forward, so I have decided to have her go to the initial school I wanted her to go. We are treated with respect and were welcomed with open arms. Shame on...
Read moreThis college is truly a Community College in every sense of the meaning of the word Community. I have 25 credits to complete my degree, I'm not only an honor student but I am also the President of my chapter, Beta Zeta Upsilon (PTK). I oh a great deal of my success at Tidewater Community College-TCC to not just my professors but to the Present of TCC, Dr. Conston, Student Services directors, Dean Chatman, Dean Prather-Johnson Alicia Peoples and so many more staff and faculty members, like Mr. Fontes, Dr. Bishop, and Dr. McCullough. I have to say last but certainly not least Mrs. Alice Robinson. TCC teaches, grooms and prepares the student to be successful. They show the students what success looks and feels like. I would recommend everyone, from high school to senior citizens age; I'm 61, to give TCC the opportunity to set you up for your educational and life journey! Here is only one example: I thoroughly enjoyed the Nato Allied Supreme Commander's Luncheon at the beautiful Norfolk Yacht & County Club! I, the President of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society's Beta Zeta Upsilon TCC Norfolk Chapter, Ethan Crutchfield, (Vice-President) along with other students and assistant director of Student Services at TCC Norfolk were honored to have the opportunity to hear what these Commanders thought of the current state of world affairs. Now lets talk about the food. The London Broil was cooked to perfection, the rest of the meal delicious as well not to mention the awesome cheesecake! The view is perfect looking over the water through the beautiful silhouetts of a variety of boats. I have đł cruised by there often in my boat. It was wonderful visiting there for Lunch. See the pics of the...
Read moreI really wanted to love TCC but I am incredibly disappointed. The woman working at the test center (shift that starts at noon, wish I had gotten her name) was SO rude to my friend who does not speak English very well who went in to take the ESL test. This woman ruined her day, my friend felt so upset and dejected when she left the test center and I didnât understand what could have possibly happened. She apparently shooed my friend out of the office like âgo away, call me on Thursdayâ. I didnât go with her so I didnât understand until talking with her on the phone on Thursday. The first time she literally HUNG UP ON ME while I was asking questions about getting my friends scores. The second time she was just so mean.. I donât understand how anyone could be working a customer service job and be so mean to people who have normal questions and donât understand the process. ONE PERSON like this is all it takes for someone who doesnât speak English to be barred from obtaining an education. honestly TCC should look into this, Iâm really shocked that they have someone treating potential students like this. If any supervisor wants to know more about this awful treatment feel free...
