Big Red Keno Norfolk — Restaurant in Norfolk

Called several hours ahead to request an area we know would be best for our mom who is going through chemotherapy and wouldn't put her in a closely crowded area. We arrive last night, and a young gentleman was preparing the area we requested. Another waitress, Lilly, immediately stopped it all. She insisted we were sitting back by the bathrooms....where we were completely surrounded by the very situation we wanted to avoid. This was also a gathering for my son who was home on a 10 day leave from the Army due to a family loss. Lilly, was not pleasant in any way whatsoever. Based merely on her treatment, we wouldn't want to return. The only reason we just sat where Lilly said we were going to was because our mom needed food and was needing to sit. So, we order from a pleasant waitress, I cannot remember her name at the moment. We all get our food 50 minutes later, to cold food. I am not exaggerating on the cold potatoes and gravy with the 2 meals that ordered them, the chicken salad with avocados was unreal. The avocados were dark brown, there was 2 tiny pieces of chicken, and the lettuce was very concerning, that person didn't get to eat. We had no refills. And, one of the kitchen staff, came out to use the restroom and one of our family members was in the restroom, and he did not wash his hands. There is absolutely no reason for this at all. We have made it in the past to make this establishment our "family" gathering place, but haven't been impressed the last several times. But last night, was the most unbelievable worst experience...

My boyfriend and I have come here 2 other times before this visit and last nights visit blew us away!! I ordered The Big Red wrap, which is normally super good but last night it tasted off. It honestly tasted like the chicken was boiled, slightly shredded then slapped in my tortilla. It tasted very bland and tasteless so I requested a bacon cheeseburger instead because I know you can’t really mess a burger up (well you can, but I’ve had a burger here as well and it was flame so I hoped!!). Anyway, the burger was delivered maybe within 5 minutes to ordering it, with fresh fries. I was amazed about how fast it came out and it made me start noticing how fast all the waiters/waitress’s are! Y’all got an amazing group of workers!! There wasn’t a time I didn’t see one of them not pacing to their next area. Amazing! We also ordered two Long Island iced teas, which my boyfriend loved but mine didn’t taste very strong nor did it give me a buzz like I was looking for, that’s where the 4 stars come in. It tasted mostly of soda and after a Long Island, i expected to be a little buzzed but nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️ We also played the quarter mania game, which is super fun to play! Our booth had a tv so we could see the numbers as they were being played easily! We definitely will be back but hope the chicken tastes better and the long islands to be a little...

There were a few things my party, who have worked in the service industry, noticed that drastically turned them off during our time there: Staff just dug the glasses into the ice instead of using a scoop; that's how you get glass shards in drinks. Staff were grabbing glasses by the lip, where people drink out of. Staff weren't allowing the glasses to sit in the sinks for the proper amount of time for the chemicals to actually clean the dishes. As a former bartender, this was drilled into me while training. Staff used their dirty shirt to open up bottles instead of the tool all bartenders have to open them. It was very off putting to see them do this right in front of us and others sitting at the bar. 5. Just overall poor service. We didn't actually know who our server/bartender was and they ended up getting one of the orders wrongs. We asked for no cheese and a gluten free bun due to medical reasons. They got the gluten free bun right but still put cheese on the burger even after the staff repeated back "no cheese." Staff then gave the person who asked for a gluten free bun a dinner roll. That was given to the other person in the party but doesn't line up with what that the first person would have been able to...
