Had a horrible experience here last night (03.26.32). I ordered food for my fiancé and me , it was ~830pm, I walk and pick up the order and go home and wait till my fiancé gets home to eat, which was late. At 10:40pm we are starving and ready to eat, we open the boxes and get met with a salad and a mushroom burger :( - this is Not what I ordered. It’s 15 till 11pm - we haven’t eaten and all restaurants have already closed for the night. I call Kellys to let them know we received the wrong order and Jill (who took my order and gave me the wrong order) treated this whole situation like I was lying to her. She put me on hold to check with another server if they had someone order a salad and mushroom burger, then she kept telling me she doesn’t know who made that order, and that no one else called to say they received the wrong order. I do not care that you don’t know whose order I received. I was so over the whole situation. I just wanted my money back and a apology, but no. Jill forced my hand to walk back to Kellys at 11:20PM to drop the wrong order off and void my receipt. Not once did I get an apology for them, and they did not try to rectify their mistake. Jill was the one that took the order over the phone, and she also checked me out when I picked up my order. She verbally repeated the order to me several times. Why didn’t she check the order? What kind of customer service is it when you don’t apologize or try to fix your Huge mistake? What kind of business is this when you make your customer come back after 11PM to void the receipt, they didn’t even use my card to void the charge. BTW We had to WALK to Chanellos for pizza after 1130PM because they were the only place open and we were starving.
I have never been fond of the food here, my veggie burger usually tastes like it is cooked on a meat grill, fries flavorless, but I go because my fiancé liked the flamethrower burger, but we will no longer be a customer of any Kellys Tavern after this experience. attached is my receipt and the food...
Read moreFirst off, my sincere gratitude to Kelly’s Tavern for actually serving simple, delicious “pub style” food. My wife and I have been in the Norfolk area for nearly five years and we’ve grown weary of our endless search for true bar food; too often we end up dining on some upstart culinary school graduate’s interpretation of what a burger should be rather than enjoying what it already is. It was refreshing to find that at least someone remembers that a fine burger need not be topped with ribbons of Gruyere, smothered in clarified duck fat, and served atop a bed of microgreens in order to fulfill its purpose.
Kelly’s is a tavern, and that is exactly what it feels like upon entering. The woodwork, the aged carpet, and the slight odor of yesteryears’ cigarettes might be off-putting in another establishment, but here they lend a sort of dignified feel. The crowd here seemed slightly older than usual for the ultra-trendy Ghent area, but there are ample street-facing windows through which you can watch younger members of society gliding past on vintage bikes and adjusting their oversized beanies. The age of the crowd was actually a huge relief to us. It meant that we need not fear judgement as we attempted to choke down our food in record time, trying to finish our meal before our toddler lost his patience and began swinging the stained glass dividers into our neighboring diners’ heads. We did not succeed, but we enjoyed the food nonetheless.
We began with the Jalapeno bottle caps as an appetizer. Hot, crispy, and delicious. Both the regular and spicy ranch sauces were perfect. For entrees I had the Honey Habanero burger, while my wife enjoyed the Artichoke Turkey sandwich. Both were superb. Temperature, flavor, speed of service, portion size, all were 10/10.
Kelly’s Tavern claims to serve the best burgers in Norfolk. Based on my experience, I’d...
Read moreIt was my birthday. I came back 2 days in a row. Because I enjoyed the food that's very loud. And the manager was talking. Long distance in a very loud tone I could hear her whole conversation. I asked nicely if she could. Please talk louder and she did not. a total disregard for the customers that. 15 feet away from the bar. I couldn't imagine how talking can feed a cross about trivial things and it's erupti. Need to update our time to just sit peacefully and have a conversation. I won't go back there again because I felt that that was very rude, inconsiderate, and she shouldn't be in that job. I'm a big proponent of customer service. I pride myself and I expect that the places that I choose will treat people with integrity but I felt that she was not there at all and her only concerned with what she had to say about anything and most of it was trivial. You could Hear jill's conversation from ten to fifteen seats away. With all the restaurants that are out there. I certainly don't need to be in this type of environment. Even 456 fish charges about the same for the crab meat sandwich, and the atmosphere is at least somewhat sophisticated. This was a little bit too far me. Again I thought the food was great. And the service was really good. But I couldn't stand how loud it was. She was her she was the center of attention not the customer. All I required was a good meal and time with my friends. Not listening to her...
