Decided to break tradition and try a new sushi place. We love eating at Maguro's sister restaurant, Taste Of Thai, which is next door, so we had high hopes for Maguro itself. The sushi menu is quite large but still felt a little confining somehow. Maybe offering up some of the dishes from next door would be a good idea. And it could be that I am not well versed in all the different types of "sushi" on the menu. We ordered a combination they have that includes 4 rolls of your choosing and split it. This was plenty of food for the two of us! The quality of the ingredients was good and it was obvious that the chef took care in the preparation and presentation. We love the staff at Taste of Thai and hope Maguro succeeds, but I was not wow-ed by our meal. It may have been our selection of rolls, as we did deviate from the rolls we usually order. We will go back to try other offerings on the menu and would definitely order some to accompany a meal at Taste Of Thai...

Maguro is absolutely fantastic and that is coming from a big time sushi snob! Stopped in for the first time yesterday because I was looking for a place nearby my office that was open at 3pm. As most restaurants close between 3-4.

I had never heard of Maguro, but I had visited Taste of Thai right next door several times and been impressed. Thought it may be the same owners, I read the other positive reviews so I figured I would give it a shot!

It did not disappoint! I loved it so much in fact, that I came back again today! Got the dinner portion Chirashi bowl both times. Fish was very fresh and flavorful, also super affordably priced. Ask the sushi chef (David, i believe was his name) for his special sauce. It’s a Sriracha, ponzu, wasabi blend! Will definitely be back and recommending to all my fellow...

Overall, I was not very impressed with this sushi bar. While the prices were reasonable, I expected more since the restaurant specializes in sushi. I wouldn't say it was as bad as grocery store sushi, but it didn’t taste fresh. The sushi rolls lacked creativity and even had a slightly fishy flavor. The service was slow, especially considering there were only three tables occupied. Additionally, the music was too loud and somewhat distracting, as it was playing from iHeart Radio. All in all, I would not return to this establishment. Many other places in the area are likely to offer fresher and more...

Taste of Thai added a sushi bar called Maguros. They connect and share a kitchen. You can order Thai on the sushi side or sushi in the Thai side of the restaurant. David, the sushi chef at Maguros is amazing! High quality fish, great atmosphere, and awesome food. David has decades of experience at many sushi spots around Charleston and Myrtle Beach. You may recognize him from Wasabi or Tsunami downtown back in the day. You can sit at the sushi bar and chat with David, or at a table (we prefer the bar). It’s our new go-to for sushi in West Ashley. Really is exceptional.
