This location has had an operational Tai restaurant for many years, but I believe the ownership may have changed more than once. The parking and access is accommodating, if a bit awkward. The exterior is plain and has a typical, basic, solid red sign over the front door of a bland strip mall entrance, looking nothing like an Asian restaurant. In contrast, the interior has a very busy and intricate Asian decor. The seating and interior are clean, comfortable and attractive. The menu has a reasonable, but not overwhelming, number of options with the lunch and dinner portions allotted separate costs. The food flavor was good and the portion size for our dinner-portioned meal was moderate and fair. The staff appeared to speak little English and seemed stressed with customer service because of that or possible cultural differences. This made them appear to be rude and often bothered by having to respond to requests. After receiving our food, we were never once asked if everything was ok or if we needed anything else. We asked for lemon with our tea 3 times and it finally arrived. Most of our inquiries or requests were met with the server turning around to fetch the desired item without a word, smile or response of acknowledgement. Again, this could be cultural or just rude service. I think that the restaurant could use one more server during this lunch hour (maybe someone called in sick). Overall, this was a 2-star experience with the easy potential for 5 if only the staff or management could engage effectively with...
Read moreTaste of Thai is the West Ashley staple for Thai food. It’s the most authentic tasting Thai food I’ve had in town. Granted, I haven’t eaten at too many other Thai spots (3 or 4 others) because this one scratches the itch.
Having been to Thailand three times myself, Taste of Thai reminds me of the local cuisine the most. Everything about it. The staff, the vibe, the food. The restaurant is just dolling out solid Thai food without trying too hard. I hope it never changes.
Great for a lunch date or a lazy Sunday take-out night on the couch. Either way, I know I can stop looking for Thai restaurants in town. This has been our spot for the past few years and for the foreseeable future.
Some recommendations: Pad Thai, Tom Kha Gai, Pad Se Eu, Pad Kee Mow, Thai Wings, Masaman Curry (especially in the winter), or their classic...
Read moreWe have had some very good food from TofT many times. But last night we did a take out order and when we got it home and opened the containers we were shocked at what we saw. The portions were very small, almost like a lunch portion. I had the duck salad. $11.99. They had drenched it in the spicy lime sauce, so the lettuce and vegetables were all droopy. Very unappetizing. The duck was about 5 strips with very little meat. The ginger shrimp was OK, but incredibly small portion for $15.99. Again, the portions we paid for were more like a lunch portions you would get for about $$7.95-$8.95. We may try it again, because we've had good experiences before, but if I do takeout I'll check it before I leave. Only took a picture of the ginger shrimp. Should have taken a pic...
