it was around 7:30 on a saturday evening. i sat in a hotel room, soggy, sleepy, and cold from a day spent in the unheated outdoor pool. unwise, but a sacrifice i was willing to make. i sat at the kitchen table. tired, weak, an unfathomable rumble in my stomach. my family moped around. hunger wearing us down.
hope seemed lost for our little family from tennessee — that is until my brother piped up.
"do you wanna do pizza now?" his voice sparked something in that quiet room. a glimpse of hope, perhaps.
i sat up from the kitchen table, my orbs glancing around the room to my mother. oh great wise one. with her nod of approval, i felt the life slowly return to my body.
i grabbed my ipad and browsed the menu. cheeseburger pizza? chicken bacon ranch? asian chicken? i could have drowned from the drool that filled my mouth. how was i to choose? which pizza would be the chosen one to satisfy my raging hunger?
after a long, grueling internal battle, i added three pizzas to my cart; chicken bacon ranch, meat eaters, and asian chicken. extra large, of course. not just any size will satisfy my big back. licking my lips, i proceeded to checkout.
i placed my order, shocked and pleased by the reasonable prices. the illuminating screen prophesied that it would arrive in an hour. good prices and good timing? doubt began to prod at my mind. fear threatened to creep in — i was drowning in questions. was this too good to be true? have i made a mistake? who is howie? why is he hungry?
i anxiously paced for a minute until my unfathomably large back had to sit down on the couch. i frequently refreshed my confirmation email until my heart stuttered.
jeffery was on the way with the goods.
this was it, i realized. time was ticking down. it was only minutes, i realized, before i would find out the truth about this pizza place in north myrtle beach.
before i knew it, there was a knock on the door. my eyes fell on the looming rectangle of white, certain yet also unsure about what lied beyond.
it opened to reveal jeffery, the savior of my rumbling stomach, holding three giant yellow boxes of pizza. (fast and friendly service, thank you ieffery.)
i placed the large boxes on the counter of our small hotel kitchen, salivating at the smell. i rubbed my hands together, preparing myself, before peeling back the cardboard cover —
oh my goodness. never in my 20 years have my eyes set upon such a beautiful sight. i didn't even wait to grab a plate. my greed took over as i grabbed a fresh slice ... what i turned into was the kind of gluttony they talk about in the bible.
the crust was perfectly golden and crisp, plenty of melty cheese, delicious sauce — and i must emphasize the crust again. the perfect thickness. hand on my heart, i was almost brought to tears in that hotel kitchen. my life was, no — IS changed.
we devoured those pizzas, the scrumptious grease like sacred liquid. it was so impactful that it was all my family could talk about the next day, and even today (Monday.)
In fact, we have broken into savings to order it again tonight. I am writing this review as I wait and salivate thinking about the order that is on the way.
questions still cloud my mind. how am i supposed to return to tennessee without this pizza? how will i survive with the closest location to home being an hour away? oh, howie. i have fallen for you. i don't know why you are hungry, but i thank every star above and below that you are.
(okay but seriously, this is the best pizza i have ever had.)
edited to add: on god yall the best pizza ever. just got the other order. hot, fresh,...
Read moreBuyer beware! Ruined our first night of our vacation. Would have been nice if we actually got the food! Ordered from their app the last 4 years when we’ve come here. Figured it’d be a long wait, ordering at 6:25, never getting food and not finding out they couldn’t produce anything until after 9pm was just beyond ridiculous! Email said an hour. I watched the app’s “tracking Howie” feature as I’ve done in the past. Went from “making” to “delivered” within seconds. Supposed to have 2 steps between that. So I called and was told they tried to deliver but would be back. I call back after 30 min. And was told they don’t know what happened but would remake my order and deliver. They than called me back and said they don’t have delivery drivers and door dash doesn’t deliver that far. At 9:15 I received a text from unknown person saying they got home and my order was at their door, which is 4 minutes from me! My name and number were in the receipt taped to the box so they were kind enough to call me. They said delivery driver was in front of their house shortly after 7 before they left and they told the driver it was the wrong address. Driver apparently didn’t speak good English and even after being told it was wrong still dropped my food at their door after they left! At this point my child is feeling sick because he’s hungry and all I got was a sorry here’s your refund and lies about not delivering to...
Read moreHad a menu from Hungry Howeys in our Condo. Decided it would be quick and easy to get pizza since we just got here for our vacation. Called to ordered and they said by our location we needed to call the North Myrtle location and the guy transferred my call. I’m ok with that so far. I placed our order and they said it would be two hours to deliver so I asked what about pickup and they said forty five minutes. I was ok with that figured we would take a little drive then pick up our dinner. Well we searched for the location in our GPS and come to find out the first one I called was only three miles from us and the the one they transferred me to was six miles???? Still was for the most part ok with this. We went for a short drive and went to pick up or pizzas. Waited about 10 minutes in line to pay for our order. My observation was that yes they were very busy but also VERY UNORGANIZED. From the time we ordered to when we were given our pizza total wait time about an hour and forty five minutes. Pizza was hot at least but i would compare it to a Little Ceasers with a different colored box. Not impressed at all with quality of food, delivery (lack there off), wait time, and there service level. Only plus was the girl that waited on us was very polite and smiling but you could clearly tell she didn’t have a clue what was going on in that store along with everyone else...
