Food was good. Service was not.

  • we were VERY excited to dine here. We are from Dutchess county NY & are very familiar with the CIA. We moved to NC 3 years ago & really miss the food. Honestly it felt like "home", seeing the FDNY (my son is FDNY) was very endearing. We were seated, server took a very long time to get our drink order, my son needed more time with his food order. It took an extremely long time for the server to return to take our food order, we just watched her lollygag around chatting before returning to get our order. There were 5 of us, 1 BLT, 1 Reuben, 1 skillet, 1 kids meal chicken tenders. 1 order of disco fries/NY fries, that I asked to be brought out in advance. After what felt like an eternity the fries were served, immediately followed by the 2 sandwiches. I was told the rest of the food was coming right away. Several minutes later, the skillet arrived. We were told the chicken tenders would be right out, they took a very long time. The chicken finally arrives, cold to the touch, everyone else was done eating. As soon as the chicken hit the table, the server offers me a box for them & the check. That is what upset me*. Server leaves, my daughter begins to eat, and find lint & a hair in her fries. Server comes by, to offer the check AGAIN, I tell her what is found, she asks to see it. We show her & the food is taken away to make a new plate. The chicken returns, fresh & extremely hot. A box is brought, and the check was offered AGAIN. Now I'm having anxiety & tell the server, she's giving me anxiety, (I don't think she's ever experienced anyone with anxiety bc she kept talking. & I was really struggling) I explained that I feel rushed, my daughter didn't even get a bite of food yet & she keeps offering a box & check. She tells me they took the chicken off the check bc they could see I was upset, I was not upset until the check was offered & box for food was offered so many times & my daughter didn't get a bite of food. I did not care about paying for the chicken that decision was made because they assumed I was upset about it, no one spoke to me about it. The sever explained to me about a shift change etc...I replied that is not my problem, it should never have been my problem in the first place. My kids were upset, I explained to them that the food should never come to the table like that, even McDonald's gives the order all at once. It's rude to the entire table. By now my daughter was so hungry, she began to feel sick & could no longer eat her meal. I paid & left. You have a very nice business, the food was very good. But that experience ruined it The food tasted like home! I appreciated it, my kids appreciated it. You have worked very hard & it shows. Your CIA training SHINES in every detail in the restaurant. I honestly thought about calling to try to get you on the phone & explain this to you. From a NYer to another I felt protective of your hard work & would hate to see it ruined. I hope that helps. I am so sorry...

I recently visited Johhny D'swith high hopes for a delicious breakfast, specifically craving their waffles. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired, both in terms of food and service.

Upon ordering, I was informed that the only sides available with the waffles were bacon or sausage. Given our dietary restrictions as Muslims, I requested a switch to eggs instead. To my surprise, the server informed me that they couldn’t accommodate this change and offered to call through manager so I can discuss it with her. This seemed quite odd, so I did speak with the manager.

When the manager arrived, she confirmed that while she understood our dietary needs, it was against their policy to substitute eggs for the side, but stated she would allow this one time for religious purposes only. It was disheartening to hear that they wouldn’t be able to accommodate us in the future either. This interaction made us feel unwelcome and left a sour taste in our mouths—not just from the food, but from the experience itself.

I understand that restaurants often have set policies, but in 2025, one would hope for a bit more flexibility and understanding, especially regarding dietary restrictions that are rooted in cultural and religious practices. It felt biased to have to call the manager for what seemed like a simple request, and it was disappointing to see a lack of consideration for our needs as customers.

Ultimately, I opted for pancakes instead, as the waffles were cooked in bacon grease, which was another hurdle to navigate. While the pancakes were decent, they didn’t quite hit the mark of what I had hoped for. The food itself was average at best, and given the overall experience, it certainly didn’t justify a return visit.

In conclusion, while Johnny D's may have the potential to serve great dishes, the lack of flexibility regarding dietary restrictions and the manner in which our request was handled left us feeling unwelcome. It’s unfortunate, as we were looking forward to enjoying a meal there. Sadly, we won’t be returning, and I would advise others with similar dietary needs to approach with caution. There are plenty of establishments that understand and respect diverse dietary requirements—this experience reminded me of the importance of seeking those out. The waitress went above and beyond after telling her that I have never had this experience at any...

My family and I visited Johnny D's 4 out of 5 mornings. We were in Myrtle beach last week, and it's one of the things I miss most. We are a breakfast loving family, and finding a reliably good place to go is a priority. With many breakfast places, they are so focused on being fancy with their offerings that it's tough to find things that are recognizable or that have the ingredients we are looking for. My son is Autistic and he does not want fancy. He wants tasty pancakes and bacon and apple juice in a timely fashion. Johnny D's delivered that to him every time. The staff remembered us from day to day and the particulars of my sons order of no butter or syrup on the pancakes. Now on to the adults. Between us, we had 3 waffles, 3 pancakes, and 4 omelets. A couple of orders of scrambled eggs and bacon were thrown in here and there as well. Every day, the food was consistent and delicious. It was hard to choose between all the incredible options for waffles, but I had the cinnamon roll waffle twice because it was so freaking good, and both times, it was stellar. There was no "it was better yesterday" from this place. Omelets were perfectly done and FULL of ingredients. Modifying here and there was easy, and you never felt like you were a bother. Which leads me to the staff. Excellent! All the servers were incredibly friendly and attentive. You are never left hanging. There was also an outstanding manager, who remembered us from day to day, always checked in with us about our experience and stayed to chat a little on our last day and expressed the hope to see us again. Everything about this place is good vibes. I even had 2 lovely encounters in the PARKING LOT with other guests. We will DEFINITELY be back. If you haven't been to Johnny D's in North Myrtle Beach, I urge you to give it a try. My family was really...

Brunch dreams came true at Johnny’s D Waffles & Eatery in Myrtle Beach, SC! 😋 Trust me, this spot gets it right. The waffles? Golden, crisp on the outside, cloud-soft inside, and begging for that buttery-syrupy drizzle. I tried the strawberry French toast, and it was the perfect balance of savory and sweet. From the cozy vibes to the creative menu, this place isn’t just a breakfast stop—it’s a whole experience. 10/10 would recommend if you’re craving comfort food with a nice cocktail! ✨🌊☀️👙😍 @Johnny D's Waffles 💫 #johnnydwaffles #foodie #foodreview #foodreviews #myrtlebeach #myrtlebeachsc #restaurantsoftiktok #waffles #brunchideas #foodtiktok #foodlover #southcarolina

I have been to several brunch places and this one will be at the top of my list. I am a bit late in writing the review, as my wife and I came on Oct 7, but people in town as well as out of town should know of this place. We came at about 1 pm and we're really hungry. The food was sooooo good I got the eyes bigger than my stomach problem. So did my wifey 😂. I want to start by saying I love Benedict's, and they have plenty to choose from. They have an extensive menu, which was great because they literally have something for everyone. Even though I like Benedicts, I had to go with the Jambalaya omelette because that really caught my eye. I got it with a side of wheat toast and cheese grits all the way. I also got a biscuit (as only one comes with the order, but it is plenty enough because these biscuits were huge, fluffy, and super delicious, slightly crunchy on the outside and warm and fluffy in the middle) and gravy. The omelette had this Cajun remoulade sauce which I will have to try to recreate because I haven't had anything like it and I need it on my omelettes in the future. The grits were also Delicious 🤤. Great flavor, not bland or too rough. My wife ordered the veggie skillet and subbed the English muffin for a biscuit as well. She also ordered the red velvet waffle. She said the skillet and the waffle were both delicious. She added some of the Cajun remoulade sauce that I had extra of to her skillet as well as she liked the sauce too. We both can't wait till we go back for the biscuit. Wifey also bout the chefs (chef actually appeared in on of those cooking shows she watches) cookbook. Also bought some jams and a maple syrup I think. Will definitely return here.

We did online check-in ahead of time and it was the right choice, as this place was packed and moving hungry people in and out at top speed and there was quite a line of waiting people sitting and standing outside. We felt special being ushered in after only about a five minute wait when it was clear others had been and would be waiting much longer. We were led to our table amidst a tight sea of tables; they are making the most of every square inch here, and since we looked agog at the lavish menu our waitress took our drink orders and left us to puzzle over our breakfast selections. By the time she returned with drinks we were ready to order. We sipped fresh coffee delivered in a sharable carafe and soon our food arrived. I had been craving a bagel for days, so instead of the namesake waffle I got a house-made bagel sandwich with fried egg, ham, and Gouda. The bagel was not up to New York style, but was fine for what it was. Hubby had a huge omelet with pancakes as a side, and our friend was the only one to actually get the famous waffles. Everyone was happy with their choices, though hubby pointed out the pancakes were not as good as Carolina Pancakes', so I reminded him this is not Johnny D's Pancakes. We left full and happy. One day I may try the waffles, but that is something I consider more a dessert than a meal, and as they close around 2pm, maybe not. But it's a place I feel comfortable recommending, especially if you do the online check-in.
