La Promesa Taqueria Y Pupuseria — Restaurant in North Myrtle Beach

This was the most horrible restaurant experience I've had ever. First, it took a long time to be waited on. Finally a very unfriendly lady comes to our table to take our order. Then, it took about 10 more minutes to even get chips and salsa. The chips were BURNED!! The server comes to take our order, and we both order the same thing. Chicken enchiladas. It took forever to get our food. Took one bite of the chicken, it was like chewing on a rubber band. I spit it in a napkin. I thought maybe it was just a bad piece. I took another bite, that was just as bad. 3rd bite, chicken was still very rubbery and unchewable. Neither of us could eat our chicken enchiladas. We pushed our plates to the side, waitress finally comes to check on us, I tell her we cannot chew the chicken. She takes our plates, brings us our ticket, places it on the table and rushes off. I look at the ticket, and I see she tries to charge us for one of the entrees anyway! Knowing good and well we couldn't and didn't eat this! So I walk up to the cash register and tell her that it's wrong to charge us for food we cannot and did not eat! So she says "we try the chicken and it was soft" I told her it was chewy and besides that WE DID NOT EAT!! Finally after going back and forth she says "fine don't pay". I don't understand how they stay in business with bad food and bad...

Service is lacking but Food was great. Menudo was excellent and it’s hard to find anywhere in the US. Authentic flavor (I’m Mexican). All our different dishes were great, even the kids loved all their Mexican food. The server and register people were pretty inexperienced and highly lacking in any pride and work ethic for their job. Our server didn’t listen to my husband repeating “no beans” 3 times for his sandwich. He can’t stand the taste and texture. There comes the sandwich with beans because she didn’t write it in the ticket. Kitchen said they will make a new one but charge us because he bit it. I went and told them “no way! We asked repeatedly no beans”. They said no problem. Super nice people, the cooks. But the server was upset and wouldn’t even serve us after we told on her. Talk about immature. The cook brought the new sandwich apologetically. We told him our server was pretty green and he said they knew and won’t even listen to the expedited cooks. Sad to see youth take their jobs for granted and not earn...

Very good, fresh food! Clean with a traditional Mexican-Salvadorian atmosphere. The young lady who was our server did not know much & would say, "I don't know" when asked a question to the point we had to ask her to find out several times. So that part was very frustrating. I had the Beef Enchilada Rojas platter that came with 5 small rolls topped with lettuce, crema, creme cheese & rice for only $10. The snall cubes of beef were very flavorful. Instead of beef my friend got them with chicken, which had no flavor. Freshly made corn tortillas and tomato salsa was served when we sat down & were a nice surprise bc they had little to no salt, unlike most which are unbearable to me. HOWEVER .... Great news is the server told us this place is primarily GF bc everything is made with corn. Non GF items have to be requested, which we know is the rarity! Horry! They do not serve any alcohol. This eatery is located in the Food Lion shopping center in NMB on Hwy...
