Rioz has gone down hill, no longer as great as it once was. Poor reservation system, salad bar is not what it used to be, there are many better restaurant options in this price range.
Terrible reservation system: I made a reservation for 7:15, arrived around 7:10, not expecting to be seated right away since it was Valentine’s Day. Fully expected to wait 20 even 30 minutes. When I checked in, I asked the hostess about how long of a wait to expect, she said ‘I don’t know’. I asked if she had a general idea, she repeated ‘I don’t know’. I politely asked if the wait would be more like 15 minutes or more like 2 hours, she said she ‘There are people ahead of you, I don’t know’. We went to the bar (10 feet from the hostess station) for a drink, there was a long wait just for a drink, only 1 bartender serving. The hostesses continued to call names for tables, we kept listening for our name. Several times they came in to the bar calling names for tables, we kept listening for our name. After more than 60 minutes, I finally walked over to the hostess station and they said they had called my name 5 times and they didn’t get a response. Definitely not true. We were listening and waiting, very hungry, and looking forward to what we figured would be a great dinner. The hostess did seat us right away after I went up to speak to them.
You would expect Rioz to have a PA speaker system or text/email alert system. I made the reservation online using the Resy app, I had to provide my phone number and email. Why not send a text or email when my table is ready? Waiting more than an hour for a reserved table, why bother with a reservation? A restaurant at this price point should have a more sophisticated hostess seating system.
Dinner was ok. The meats are still fantastic quality, tasty, freshly prepared, and the service is great. They brought medium rare lamb chops after we requested, and these were amazing.
However, Rioz’ salad bar has really gone down hill over the years. It used to have sashimi style tuna and salmon, now it’s only gas station quality sushi rolls (2 kinds). Used to have gourmet meats and cheeses. Now it’s low quality pre sliced pepperoni, salami, and the same pre sliced cheese you get at a cheap grocery (provolone and Gouda only). They had fresh mozzarella, but what’s the point if the tomatoes are rock hard and semi orange, and no basil. Used to have baked fish and other high quality hot foods, used to have better selection of prepared salads. The shrimp were teeny tiny and looked like the kind you get frozen in a bag for 4$ at Walmart. Most items tasted like they came prepackaged, definitely not fresh prepared.
We’ve gone to Rioz for special occasions for nearly 15 years (started going when the only location was the near Broadway at the Beach), but I don’t plan to return. The quality has been declining for a few years, and I guess my expectations are higher...
Read moreWe arrived at 5:40 for our 6:00 reservation that I placed a week prior. At 6:20 when we still had not been seated I went in to check and I was informed that there were still 3 tables ahead of me to be seated. At 6:26, we finally got called for our 6:00 reservation. I'm not really sure why I made a reservation to be honest, it probably shouldn't even be offered if you cannot have a table ready for someone for when they reserved it. The food was amazing! My husband has been wanting to go here for years so we finally decided to go for his birthday and he really enjoyed the food. The price of the food is comparable to other buffet restaurants in the area and you definitely get what you pay for. The individuals who brought the meat around to the table were very friendly and efficient. The servers seemed very disorganized and over extended: I had a drink spilt on me (no type of compensation was offered after the incident); another server offered to refill my family's drinks and never came back with our drinks; my drink was never refilled; we waited at our table for 20 minutes trying to get someone to bring us our bill and when we finally received it, it was wrong, so it took us several more minutes to get someone back to our table to have it corrected and while I was settling the check another server brought another bill to our table. It was just very disorganized. The restaurant is very crowded and it's as if they have too many tables. I'm sure it meets fire codes, but it's hard to move around because there is barely any space between tables and it's even worse when people are sitting down. Overall, the food is great but the...
Read moreWonderful!!! Note, we came here during the pandemic, and the Friday AFTER Labor Day. They were not that busy, and that may affect the service level. But do know that it really appears they are taking all possible precautions to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
Folks, this was our first ever experience at a Brazilian Steak House. It will not be our last.
I took my 13-year-old, always hungry son here. He wanted to try "all you can eat" meat. The salad bar was very well stocked and had items like Sushi that are not normal salad bar items. The meat was fantastic. Not the best I've ever eaten, but when you consider the variety on offer, it was amazing. The ONE thing that really stands out is the service. EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE seemed to take it upon themselves to make sure we enjoyed our meal. I cannot express enough how good the service was. I.e. I wanted to taste their lamb. After telling a couple servers that I didn't care for what they had, one of our waiters came and asked if there was something I wanted to see come around. I told him, and two minutes later I had samples of lamb chops and leg of lamb on my plate. (Both were very good!) I felt like a king! So, great food and seriously impressive service. My boy ate so much that I had to finish his red velvet cake. (Oh darn) Great place for a date night or a splurge dinner to stuff your teen boys. Think @ $50 per person with non alcoholic drinks: more with drinks or dessert. It's going to be a longer dinner, as it's kind of an experience rather than just dinner. Not a place I can afford to come to often, but a really fun treat none the less. Hope you...
