Many people at Mass on the feast of the Ascension, which was quite surprising. This is a large church with a more modernistic approach to the liturgy. Music is standard fare - not good but not terrible. WAY too many extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist - ALL of them women. Women lectors & typical novis ordo music... & surprisingly, they actually had a male altar server. The majority of the congregation were wearing masks, even though restrictions were relaxed quite a bit everywhere else. The worst part was being refused the Holy Eucharist. The priest refused to give me Holy Communion because I only receive on the tongue - the way Catholics were to receive for 2000 yrs. So I turned and asked for a blessing, at which time he said, "bless you." Wow! Needless to say, this priest needs a LOT of prayer. Since my home church reopened almost a year ago, we have been allowed to receive Communion in the traditional manner, & quite a few of us do. NO ONE has gotten sick from this. So if you want the more "modernistic" approach to the Mass, attend this church. If you want a CATHOLIC Mass, go to St Andrew's. It's...
Read moreWe haven't had this much personality and enthusiasm since Father Michael left, Deacon Peter delivers the homily a strong personal touch and he keeps everyone involved but it's rare that he gets to deliver it,, Now this is only the second time I've seen Fr. Cirrilo but I am so happy to have his enegry and strong message during the 8 AM service. There were a number of parishioners discussing going to another Church because the service lacks energy and purpose ,, at times the songs are beautiful ,,but for the most part they contribute to the boredom,, this may sound harsh ,. if so I am sorry But this is a big parish and it seems that the staff at OSS aren't concerned about the parishioners,, I hope that we can at least keep Fr. Carrillo at the 8AM serivice, He provides the positive energy and strong message that can keep people coming ... God Bless...
Read moreDaily mass at 8 & 9 am M-F. Perfect for vacation! Multiple Weekend masses, including Saturday vigil & Sunday masses, sure to fit in to your schedule, & conveniently located in N. Myrtle Beach - so, no excuses, vacationers! The church itself is modern, very large & spacious, with very pretty, albeit almost "cartoonish" looking, stained glass windows portraying the stories of the Bible, which may not suit all tastes, but are lovely nonetheless. There is a gorgeous garden located between the church & the school that you will definitely want to visit. The parish priests are excellent & the community is vibrant! Homilies are poignant, inspired, well prepared, & easily heard, thanks to a good sound system. Not sure of the seating capacity, but Sunday masses are usually packed, so arrive early if you want to find a seat. This church makes me proud to...
