For my birthday this year, I set out to find the best crab cake in the greater Myrtle Beach area and all reviews led to Main Street Taphouse. We live in Conway, so it was a pretty easy drive across Hwy 90 to downtown North Myrtle Beach. Didn't realize it was open mic night night and when we arrived most of the (relatively few) table were occupied by guitar-cradling hopeful singers. One offered to move his guitar case and music paraphernalia off a table so we could sit down and we were promptly greeted by the bartender (no idea of her name, she never mentioned it) and had our drinks within a few minutes, although my 16 ounce beer showed up in a 12 ounce glass. Okay. Open up the menu and was SHOCKED that the two 4 ounce crabcakes were $45! The "sides" were saltines and tartar sauce. Oh well, we'd driven 45 minutes, let's split the order of crab cakes. While we were waiting for our order, some brave and tone-deaf souls "entertained" us with songs I couldn't tell you the name of. Our order arrives. Two four-ounce crab cakes obviously made from lump crab meat, two packs of saltine crackers (as in two crackers each), two thin slices of lemon, and a paper container of tarter sauce for us to share. The crab cakes were pretty good, nicely seasoned, with lots of crab and not much filler, but the price, the presentation, the "sides," and the atmosphere didn't make it a great experience. For $45, I would expect a few more packs of crackers or maybe some tater tots, a piece of lettuce for the lemon slices, or just something to make it more presentable. We ate, finished my half a beer, paid the $64+ tab, tipped the no name bartender $10, and left. We...
Read moreI want to start by saying I am not the “leave a review type”. But after going here, I had to leave a review.
I’ve had my fair share of crab cakes living in Maryland, growing up surrounded by the best seafood spots on the East Coast, and I never thought I’d find one to rival what I grew up on—until I came to Main Street Tap House. Their crab cake wasn’t just good—it was phenomenal. Perfectly seasoned and golden on the outside. It completely blew me away.
But the food is just the beginning. The entire experience was incredible. The staff treated us like family from the moment we walked in. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to be there. You can tell they love what they do—and it shows. The owners even came out to chat with us, and they were absolutely amazing. Passionate, down-to-earth, and committed to creating something special for the community.
The vibe inside? Spot on. Clean, welcoming, full of energy without being chaotic. It’s the kind of place where you want to settle in and stay a while. Whether you’re bringing friends, family, or just flying solo, you’ll feel at home here.
If you’re anywhere near this place, GO. I can’t recommend Main Street Tap House enough. Great food, great people, great atmosphere. This is how a local spot should be done—and...
Read moreThe service was horrible . As soon as we got there we waited . Eventually the bartender came over and got us drinks with a menu . Took forever to give our order . Waitress was by herself on a Friday night . She for some reason was also making drinks behind the bar . She never said “ how’s your food or would you like another drink . We called her over to get the bill and we gave her our card right away so we wouldn’t have to wait longer . The menu is very limited . I had flatbread and didn’t seem very fresh . Again Nothing from the waitress such as thank you or good night . As I said she never said want another drink or how was dinner . Anytime we needed something we had to wave her down and my husband went to bartender another time when he needed something . Horrible service that I have had...
