So, my daughter gave me a partially used gift card to this place. I had never been here before so I figured I'd stop by and grab a sub. During checkout I ran the gift card.. declined. They ran it about six or seven more times.. declined. After that one of the guys behind the counter started laughing saying those gift cards never work here, they're always a problem. It's not the card, it's a problem on our end. The guy ringing me up says well, I can't lookup the balance, I'm too busy.. then just proceeds to stand there. Now mind you, I came in at an off-time four people in the store, maybe five, including me and I'm the only one at the register. Anyway, I pulled on my credit card and paid for it.
I came in the next day and ordered a sub. During checkout I ran the gift card.. declined. They ran it about eight more times.. declined. I finally asked them, can't you just check the balance? I know there's money on it. Oh yeah, two clicks on the register and it pulls up the balance. Then, the lady behind the register says, oh... that's why you got declined, you don't have enough money on that card to pay for your sub! I said.. well, there's money on it! And she just keeps repeating herself over and over, you don't have enough money to pay for your sub.. blah, blah, blah. Then just stands there expecting me to pay for the whole thing. I said.. there's money on the card and that's my money, what do you expect me to do just not use the remaining balance? I said.. use what's on the card then whatever's left over I'll pay the balance. Finally, she rings it through.
I really don't understand what's so difficult about it. People use gift cards all the time and that's standard practice.
I'm not exactly sure what's going on here however, it seems a little corrupt! Since, these are the only two times I've been to Penn station subs, I can't tell you if it's a problem with this particular location or the franchise. Anyway, if you're going to go here I would highly recommend not using a gift card. I just can't help but wonder how many people they have cheated out of their...
Read moreWe came in approximately 30 minutes before closing. We felt bad but got to our hotel late and just wanted to grab a sub. The young men were very nice that waited on us and I apologized for coming in so close to closing time. You could tell they about had everything cleaned so they could lock the doors.
When we went to order they told us they were out of turkey. So hubby got a Dagwood without turkey, he got ham, corned beef and the tiny bit of turkey they had left. I ordered a Reuben and they were out of Swiss so they put provolone on it for me. Asked if they still had any fresh brewed tea left since they were out of pretty much most meats and cheese. They did but barely enough to fill the large cup so they gave that little bit to me. They were trying to help and stated they had a very busy day that is why they were out of everything.
Got to the hotel down the street went in our room for the evening. My hubby tries his sandwich and there was barely any meat on the sandwich. Nothing like an unhappy hungry tired hubby. The fries were overcooked.......jeez. Okay so we picked through the fries to find the few soft not overcooked ones, pushed all the filling into half of the bun and threw away the other half of the bun. Let's look at the good side.....we saved ourselves from eating too many carbs. So basically he ate half of a regular sub and I did the same on my small sub and then just threw the rest away. You
Rather disappointing and if all Penn Station subs are like this we are skipping these sub shops. I felt like my mom cut the meat for the sandwiches. You know .... so thin you could see through the ham.
Needless to say we will skip Penn Station...
Read moreThe man taking our order was not the most pleasant person we have dealt with, but we took it as them maybe having a bad day. We placed our order and was looking for signs to find out if we were able to eat there as they looked like the were starting to get busy after we ordered. We saw some tables that said do not eat at certain tables and to distance, so we avoided those tables and went to the table that had the chairs off the table with no sign. One of the workers yelled across the place saying we cant eat in here. Normally this wouldnt be a problem, but the chairs that were down and the signs off the tables were staggered. If no eating is allowed, signed should clearly be placed on the door as take out only and tables blocked instead of staggered with open tables abd closed tables. Nonetheless, we grabbed our stuff to wait for our food. As we were leaving, we did thank them for the service. Besides that incident, it just seemed as though just about everyone just hated being there. I have worked food customer service, and we were always reminded to be polite to the customers and work with a smile. Also should not have someone working a register AND being involved with food using the same pair of gloves. They should definitely be changed out each time when you go from handling money and register to handling food. 2 stars since the food is...
