I miss what I remember about Steak N Shake. Last time I came here was about four years prior to a week ago. After a minute or two of standing by the door with waitresses walking by, we were greeted with, "Hello, people, where do you want to sit?", and proceeded to hand each of us a menu while standing at the front door...That individual explained they work in the back and don't know how to seat people, and also didn't know how to set up the high chair? It was an awkward five minutes, but I told him it's alright, at least he gave his time to seat us. The waitress came over after another five minutes and greeted us with, "Are you guys ready?" My thoughts as a previous server: ouch, girl, you need to realize how that sounds to people that are tipping you for your service. My grandmother was ordering, and literally, she begins asking ME if that's what she wants. Like what? The woman is speaking clear as day, and you're looking at me like I'M talking to you? So strange and for my grandmother, how demeaning. And yes, my grandmother asked, "Was she actually confirming what I just ordered through you?" Embarrassing. Throughout the waitresses interactions with us and other tables, I began to get the idea she might've been a bit slow to catch onto things and the way she responded to people was a mixture of naivety/cluelessness. 15 minutes into the meal, I asked if I could utilize this coupon for a free milkshake with my Frisco melt, and she responded with, "yeah, give it to them at the counter when you pay" and quickly walked off without a moment to tell her I want to order the milkshake..like now. The best thing she did do was reportedly make a new pot of coffee for my gma, otherwise it was an odd experience. For three adults and two kids to eat it was $24. I guess you can't beat the price? The sandwiches were alright but those buns on the burgers looked super blasé and overall unappetizing. I was alright with the Frisco melt. My daughter's Mac and cheese was literally half a cup at best. Just a strange experience. I honestly can only think of coming here for shakes,...
Read moreWalk in to grab lunch. There is one guy helping somebody pay their bill at the register. There is something that goes wrong with the transaction so the employee runs to the back to get somebody to help him correct. More people come up to the register so I step to the side as I way to be seated. At the same time a women and her young kid walk in and stand right next to me. The employee that went to the back to get help walks right up to the women and her child and ask if it is just then 2 before continuing to seat them. He then returns to the register to assist the new people who have came to the register to pay. It had become somewhat backed up so another coworker came uo to assist. I remain standing their patiently. After about 10 minutes of standing there without being acknowledged i decided to grab a menu then go sit down in a small booth, to make sure I am courteous of other larger parties that may make the same mistake and walk in to this establishment. After sitting in the booth for about 15 minutes and not one person asking to take my order, or even apologize for their negligence of decent customer service I walked out and took my business else where and will never return. I intended to make sure that every person I know will never make a mistake and spend a single dime at Steak 'n...
Read moreHi Today (01 May 2011), we had a power outage in the shopping complex and the Stake 'N Shake Store 528 was the entire one in the lot having power and hence operational. There was a huge, huge amount of people who were in the restaurant and lined up at the drive-thru. Despite the rush, I was very courteously greeted by Gregory (? manager of store) and he took my order for carry-out. He even gave me good advice even though there was a big rush. He made me comfortable. Through-out the wait period, I saw Gregory rush through orders, working very hard and at the same time, managing his staff in order to minimize people's wait time. I gave a quick glance and everyone was working like crazy with the occasional "phew" kinda phrase! It was a complete team work and staff was totally cooperating with Gregory with handling the unusual load. My wait time for carry-out was 25 minutes, which was late as per the restaurant standards but I was pretty okay with it. Still Gregory apologized and refunded my money, gave me free coupons for shakes, and gave me my order too!
This place has exceeded my expectations. Today, I came to know there was a good restaurant despite McDonalds or BK, etc. I think I will forever be a customer of...
