We were invited to Genitti's for my dear friend's rehearsal dinner. We had a lovely time and enjoyed the food and service.
We were greeted warmly upon entering with another bridesmaid and her husband and were directed downstairs to join the rest of the party. Be careful on the steps, especially if you're in heels -- they're pretty narrow and steep! We all made it without incident and sat down at a table with the bride and groom.
The inside is nicely decorated (even the downstairs) and our room featured an attractive bar. The cocktail menu we were given was extensive and inventive! Lots of yummy sounding drinks (even to me, who doesn't drink much) in addition to standard wine and beer offerings.
Service was excellent all night. Very prompt with drinks and food, polite and friendly, direct and helpful. They even brought us a lot of boxes to bring some food back to the hotel where lots of folks were staying since a good handful of people were unable to make it to the rehearsal in time because of flight/traffic delays. Crazy weather weekend!
The family style meal was tasty and the offerings were diverse. Italian wedding soup, fresh breadsticks, salad, sausages and peppers, baked chicken and green beans, fettuccine alfredo, breaded steak and potatoes, and cannoli for dessert! My favorite items included the wedding soup and the nicely seasoned, crispy potatoes. I tried both a raspberry cocktail and a tea/lemonade cocktail. I forget the details but they were both enjoyable, with my preference going to the raspberry drink.
My complaints are very minor, but just so you get the whole picture, here they are:
Lots and lots of food -- enough for multiple servings of almost everything if one was inclined -- but only one cannoli per person for dessert, at least at our table. I definitely could've and would've eaten another one, haha, since I didn't eat a ton of protein and therefore wasn't stuffed.
It gets super loud super fast in the basement. At times, it was a little hard to hear each other and make conversation without speaking very loudly, which only made things louder. I was pretty overstimulated by the end.
And last, for me personally, I was pretty hot. So just FYI, don't come in a sweater like me, or if you do, come in layers so you can disrobe as you get warmer. This could definitely be my mistake as I'm most assuredly an out-of-towner and don't know the protocol for clothing in Michigan in January, haha. :)
Overall though, we very much enjoyed our night at Genitti's, and would recommend them at least as guests for any dinner party...
Read moreI rarely give all 5 stars but this place wowed me and the party I was with. Here is my take on Genittis hole in the wall
The staff! I'm not sure how they do it but every single staff member was happy and in a good mood. There wasn't one person who was short with us or not smiling even when they were stopped mid stride and had to answer the same question someone else just asked. 10/10
Service! The food was not only on time but fresh and plentiful. We had a party of 12, got the family style dinner and not once was anyone's drink even closer to empty. The used dishes were removed without stacking up and the next plate was delivered in what seemed like a rehearsed Orchestra. 10/10
The food! I can't express how full you'll get from the family style dinner. The food and bread never runs out. The bread is soft warm and seasoned just right, the soup and Main courses had a great flavor, not relying on salt to please taste buds. Everyone left feeling like Thanksgiving dinner. 10/10
The show! It was a little corny but in saying that it made it entertaining and funny. Again, none of the staff had a bad mood, looked down or seemed as if they wanted to be elsewhere. They called people from the room to come up on stage but from what we could see, it looked preplanned so if you're the shy type, I don't think they call on you randomly but I could be wrong. Still it was fun and added to the laughter we all shared. 9/10
My only gripe! Trying to call ahead to pay for my seat, it took me 2 days before someone answered the phone. I really hope this is a one time phone glitch that has been remedied. 2/10
I'm excited to get back there after the new year and enjoy another visit so I can be surrounded by happy people in a fun setting and eat till I...
Read moreFrom the moment we parked to the second we left out the front door to head home was memorable. Between thr staff, atmosphere, hospitality, food and the entertainment everything was spot on. After parking we didn't know how to get to restaurants entrance. I called Genitti's to ask for walking/ wheelchair directions. I wasn't given directions but a staff member was sent out to greet us at our vehicle. He walked with us right to the front door. đ đ I have never received hospitality like that. We were greeted by staff as we entered the building and seated promptly. The food was amazing & the show was just as nice. Come hungry because the food just keeps coming, plan on having leftovers.
I MUST CAUTION! âżď¸ â ď¸ The only problem I had was the fact NO wheelchair accessible washroom is available. The washroom is comparable to an airplane restroom. If you require more room don't expect to have access to a sink or toilet while visiting Genitti's. The inability to have access to an accessible restroom is a major issue for people in the community requiring them. The disabled community also enjoys socializing & being a part of our community. We (the disabled) often times feel Isolated & discriminated. Be it public transportation, uneven sidewalks, heavy doors or not having accessible restrooms makes it almost impossible to enjoy ourselves away from home. âżď¸ â ď¸
My personal experience: After the hour drive it took us to arrive at Genitti's I needed to use the restroom, Adding the 2.5 hour dinner/show, needless to say I was very uncomfortable. And then I still had to wait the hour to get back home to use the restroom. I understand Genitti's is in a historic building but proper accommodation are...
