Not sure if we came on an off day but our experience was bad, and the food worse. It certainly looked nothing like the posted pictures. We were the second table seated in the restaurant. We ordered a salad, burrito, and chicken quesadilla. The quesadilla took 35+ min to come out, and was a cheese quesadilla. No point in sending it back because the other two dishes took 10 more minutes to come and we didn’t want to risk waiting even longer. Antithetical to being a taqueria in my experience.
When the dishes did come out, it was all style and no substance. The burrito was monstrous, had two tortillas inside, and the filling was barely filling and completely understated, nondescript mush. You could only tell a handful of the components apart, mostly on sight and not flavor. The burrito covering was a fried mess, and it looked like a shoe. And the salad came undressed in an over fried tortilla bowl, which made it nearly impossible to mix anything. It also had very little taste.
Service was unresponsive, but they seemed like nice people. After over an hour, getting bad/wrong food and very little guidance or attending from staff, we will not be going back ever again. It’s a shame because the ambiance is great, the pictures look tasty, and the reviews are great too. So again, maybe it was an off day. But even if so, better communication and effort in the...
Read moretables inside, and attending to a few take-out orders, she was busy, but I never felt as if I were waiting. She was on top of things.
The food was good. I had a Cheese Empanada, Shrimp Taco and Fish Taco. The Cheese Empanada was good, the dough light and crispy, the cheese was simple, yet flavorful. It was served with a salsa that I thought was just ok. It was missing some depth of flavors. When the tacos came out, I was a bit worried that as they looked similar and I thought they were going to taste the same, but with just a different protein. To my surprise, they both had distinct flavors. I was also going to ask for salsa as I am accustomed to having Salsa Verde or Roja with my tacos. But again, to my surprise they didn't any additional salsa. Both tacos were very abundant, but also hard to eat. I was also disappointed that the tortillas didn't hold up well to the sauces and other ingredients in the tacos as they began to break apart. It's hard to say which taco I liked better - the flavor of the shrimp was better than the fish, but the other ingredients were more flavorful on the fish taco. I also thought the fried fish lack any fried crispiness.
Overall I had a good experience. I wouldn't hesitate visiting again, but probably wouldn't make a special...
Read moreI frequently dine atTaqueria in Norwalk and it is also a very special experience. Several times this month I have been eating there with friends and it is outstanding. Their new menu offers many delicious creative and inspiring choices with daily fresh ingredients cooked to perfection in an atmosphere of warmth and friendship. I have never been disappointed, either by the delicacy of the taste, the substantial portions, or the polite, quick service. This handcrafted restaurant by the father of the family of the restaurant has a charm that evokes village life and memories for quaint beautiful places even if you have never traveled there. Everything from floor to ceiling and wall to wall was built by Bernardo, the multi-lingual host and guide for the culinary tour. It is a place in the tradition of community where people speak to strangers and become friends from one table to the next. And ... believe it or not in this day and age ... can you imagine customers arriving and before being seated coming over to hug and greet Bernardo. After a scrumptious meal, this embrace of friendship and welcome are repeated in farewell. Fine choice of wine and delicious margaritas and variety of liquor. Thank you, Bernardo and Rincon, for our many meals...
