What an incredible experience. Having been a salesman for one of the best Italian food distribution companies in the tri-state area, my reviews on Italian restaurants come with a background of knowing what the very best Italian restaurant's have to offer in the most competitive Italian food scene outside of Italy.
My experience at SoNo Wood Fired was nothing short of incredible. My date and I had the table located next to the window with a view of the street outside of the Restauant, while experiencing the calm, family oriented atmosphere inside. As an appetizer, we ordered the meatballs. The tomato sauce is composed of the best canned tomatoes available on the market, Bianco Dinapoli, the cans are shown on the chefs counter as a testament to the quality of ingredients used in their dishes. These tomatoes are sourced from a small farm in California and I’ve only known the best restaurants in New York City to use them, as you really have to be in the know to have such excellent, quality tomatoes. They also use local Connecticut mozzarella, a company known as Luizzi, and on other dishes the owner also confessed to using some of their other excellent products such as their Bufala Mozzarella which is also stunningly delicious and can be enjoyed all on its own.
For our main dishes we had the rigatoni bolognese, the Calabrese pizza, and the chicken scarpariello. Each one was absolutely incredible in its own unique way. The rigatoni was a high quality pasta, flavorful bolognese sauce which has the perfect mixture of meat and sauce. The Calabrese pizza has chunks of fresh mozzarella, fior di latte, with slices of salumi, and homemade hot honey. The owner explained the process of making the homemade hot honey which gave a flavor profile to the pizza that’s been unparalleled to anything alike. I’ve had a lot of pizza, and this was simply amazing. It is in my top three favorite pizza’s I have ever had. The chicken scarp was beautifully presented. The chicken was cooked to perfection, it was a hefty piece of meat that was tender and juicy. Chicken, potatoes, peppers, and sausage and more were all cooked together to create a satisfying dish.
I rarely leave reviews for restaurants, I do when I believe a restaurant is doing something special. Something unique. SoNo Wood Fired has to be my favorite dining experience in South Norwalk, by a long shot. Everything from the amazing service, the incredible dishes, and the great atmosphere, I’d be crazy not to recommend this to everyone I know who appreciates a great dining experience and excellent food. I can’t wait to...
Read moreWas here this evening for a bday! The reviews looked really promising so i was extremely excited to eat here, but sadly I left disappointed. Some dishes were good some were just ok. We had 3 different wing flavors, pizza, papardelle, short rib, zupe de pesce and dessert so we had a range of things. I get this isnt a wing place but the wings were disappointing, while very meaty they lacked flavor, the sauce barely adhered so you felt like you were eating just cooked chicken wings, with the sauce being an afterthought. The garlic parm was the best of the worst because the sauce was thicker and coated the wings more. My opinion is pass on wings here. The brusselsprouts appetizer was the best dish of the night. It was so good and balanced with the bacon. Pizza is Neapolitan style which i have to admit is not my favorite style. Too much doughy crust and chewy over all. Im sorry but I wouldn’t even consider it good for Neapolitan style. The short ribs were tender but the dish was under seasoned, needed salt and had very little demi glace. Pappardelle was very good but again very little sauce and needed salt. I don't even like saying things need salt because i have to admit most things we eat are over salted but unfortunately most of the dishes including the wings and zupa were under seasoned. Cheesecake was very good, no idea if they make it in house though. Was extremely loud in there music volume was very high. Impossible to have a convo. Service was attentive and friendly. Unfortunately will...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Sono Wood Fired, and I must say, it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. The moment I walked through the door, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that perfectly sets the stage for an unforgettable meal. The star of the show is, without a doubt, the food. The flavors are bold and authentic, transporting you straight to the heart of Italy with every bite. But the excellence doesn't stop at the pizza. The menu boasts a diverse selection of appetizers, salads, and entrees that showcase the same attention to detail and commitment to flavor. What truly sets Sono Wood Fired apart, however, is the impeccable service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. From the moment you are seated, you are treated like a valued guest, with each server going above and beyond to ensure your dining experience is nothing short of exceptional Sono Wood Fired is a gem that deserves all the praise it receives.
