If you’re in the mood for a unique and delicious sandwich, you’ve got to check out Spanky’s in Nutley. I had the Cluck Norris chicken sandwich, which comes with roasted red peppers, mozzarella, and fig jam. I asked for it without arugula and swapped the grilled chicken for a crispy chicken cutlet, and it was absolutely amazing. The combination of flavors was spot-on, with the sweetness of the fig jam complementing the savory chicken and roasted peppers perfectly.

The real surprise of the visit came when the owner, Spanky, insisted we try one of his famous hot dogs. He asked if I liked bacon, and when I told him not so much, he went to the back and came out with a Dirty Skirt hot dog—no bacon, but with bacon jam which tasted wonderful!. It was so good, I wasn’t expecting it to be that great, but I’ll definitely be back for another one next time!

We also had some crispy fries, served with a special sauce on the side that reminded me of McDonald’s Big Mac sauce—so good!

Spanky was a great host and chatted with us while we waited for our food, adding to the whole enjoyable experience. The shop is easy to find with convenient street parking right on Main St., so no hassle getting there.

One small suggestion for Spanky’s would be to see a selection of bottled drinks other than bottled water and fountain sodas only. It’d be great to have more variety to pair with those fantastic sandwiches and hot dogs. Also, while the laid-back vibe is nice, it was a little quiet in there, so maybe a TV or some background music could add a bit more to the atmosphere. That being said, these are just small tweaks—everything else was fantastic, and I’ll definitely be back!

I walked in and I believe I spoke to the owner and I assume one of the chefs. I told them it was my first time and I wanted what ever he recommends. Served me the bacon me crazy. I asked for the jersey fries and a root beer. He gave me a side of macaroni salad on the house while I wait.

First of all the service and friendliness is top notch. Nice and calm atmosphere. The burger was amazing. I’ve heard of bacon jam and this burger had and it was phenomenal such an amazing taste. The fries are fresh cut style. The macaroni salad had a nice tangy taste to it and of course root beer never disappoints.

Tiny place. Not much room for dine-in eating. Stopped by for the first time yesterday with a Slice order. Glad they have online ordering through a few different vendors. Food was top notch. Burgers were delicious and the Buffalo Cluck was messy but amazing. Fries are generous and fresh, like fair fries. Wish the garlic-parm fries had a bit more of that flavor but were good nonetheless.
