Mike's Pasta Shoppe — Restaurant in Nutley

I stumbled upon Mike’s last year on Instagram and decided to take the plunge earlier this year and was pleasantly surprised. My partner was upset they don’t do turkey but he normally gets some kind of grilled chicken sandwich so no worries there.

My go to sandwich is their Fried Eggplant w/ extra tomato jam and usually some type of cold cut added. This is by far the best sandwich I have ever had. The tomato jam and whipped ricotta compliment the eggplant effortlessly. I dream about this sandwich weekly!

We’ve also tried their Nutley Hot Chicken (past weekend special), Grilled Chicken, Chicken Cutlet, Italian, BLT, & All of ‘Em. Their chicken cutlets are PERFECT. Seasoned to perfection, great crunch on the crust, flavorful. My partner loves their BLT with extra bacon and the All of ‘Em sandwich is absolutely loaded. They also have Italian snacks like chips & sodas. We haven’t tried their pastas yet but they’re on our radar.

Customer service is superb every time we order whether over the phone or in person. They always greet us nicely and have no issues adding or removing something on our sandwiches. They make great conversation when we’re waiting for our sandwiches to be made. I absolutely love going into their shop because they make me feel like I’m part of the family rather than just a customer.

Their prices are a bit higher than usual but I can understand why. The quality of the cuts and products are phenomenal so the cost is not an issue for me. Try them out, you...

I have been eyeing this shop ever since Pig and Prince closed down. It's a cool looking place, you can see where they make the fresh pasta in house and all of their meats and salads are on display as well. Please be aware that their menu is primarily sandwiches. We thought you could order pasta dishes as well but you have to buy the fresh pasta and sauce and make yourself. Which was no problem, just not what we anticipated. We decided to get the eggplant sandwich which had fried eggplant, whipped ricotta and tomato jam. Very unique! And the chicken cutlet sandwich which had breaded chicken cutlet, provolone, arugula, roasted red peppers, and balsamic on great crispy bread- superb! We got a pound of fresh rigatoni and their homemade pasta sauce. We had that the next day for dinner and it was amazing. Highly recommend. We also got one of their seasonal pumpkin breads with cream cheese which was excellent. On top of all the food being great, the staff was above and beyond. I accidentally spilled my coffee in their and the guys made no big deal about it. One of the staff's dads was their and even offered me a bite of the dish his son just made! Oh! We also got some of their savory bread pudding which was like Thanksgiving in a bite. This place is awesome. I wish them the best of luck! My parents recently found Mike's pasta sauce at a local farmers' market. They both enjoyed the sauce so we decided to give their sandwiches and sides a try as a family.

About a week or so ago we called in a large order of sandwiches, sides and pasta sauces. Customer service over the phone was great and the food was very good, albeit expensive, totaling over $100. This first experience was enjoyable and the food was delicious. As such, we looked forward to visiting Mike's again.

Today we decided to go in person to order sandwiches and sides. When we walked in, there were only two other customers. The man behind the counter was helping them so another employee came out to assist us.

He wasn't friendly from the start. As the sandwiches were being made, my mom realized she forgot to mention we wanted onions on one of them. She brought this up to the employee and he seemed put out that we wanted to make a slight change. The sandwich wasn't even completed yet nor wrapped. His attitude,however, made it clear that he was annoyed by this request.

His attitude only worsened when we asked for two bags since the food was going to two different places.

This employee's attitude colored our experience today which is a shame since we had such a good first impression.
