Pete's Red Hots — Restaurant in Oak Park

First time here, recommended by a coworker so I had to try it out. I only came to try their Italian beef sandwich to compare it to others and see if it was as great as others have said about their sandwich. So let’s get straight to it. The sandwich is a very nice portion and not skimpy on the meat, I got the hot peppers and they out just the right amount on the sandwich, and although spicy, as expected, it was not too spicy as to set my mouth on fire, like Portillos does, just the right amount of heat..the sandwich was dipped, and the bread didn’t fall apart which I appreciate,,I must say the beef was seasoned well, and actually had lots of flavor compared to most others, definitely not the best, but acceptable, BUT this sandwich I must say, which,has lots of potential to be great was ruined by the fact that it was WAY too salty,,,that was just way too much salt, I hope this was just a mistake, and not the norm …all in all this was definitely not the worst beef I’ve had, but not the best either. So far Als on Taylor street, still holds the number one...

Did used to be my favorite beef place, now that the old man is not around the younger guys have a nasty attitude I spent over $28 and my order was wrong not once but twice. I wanted to order the beef dip hot peppers on the side and told him about how my last order was messed up and they were very rude about it and expected me to bring back food from July 5 and I don’t drive. today I went back for an Italian beef dip with hot peppers on the side they did not get my sandwich right again,, gave me a cup of juice and it’s not the same thing I’m done with Petes. I used to pay people to take me. How did my cheeseburger that I want with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato and extra pickles become a cheeseburger with mustard and grilled onions???? How did my turkey sub that I ordered with no mayonnaise no onions,came full of onions? You can no longer phone in your orders and I think the younger guys that work there is going to bring the business down. I’m done with Petes. It’s nothing like ordering food and you get it and it’s not the way...

*Update 2023: Maintaining status as a GREAT grill joint, with fair prices in these inflationary times. You will never receive a skimpy portion here as many other places are doing😃👍

What I greatly enjoy about Pete's is that the old timers who have been around 30+ years still work behind the counter, and the younger crew has been there for quite a while as well. I like to see familiar faces and I can trust that with a loyal crew the quality will remain consistent.

I really enjoy the Greek chicken which is never ever dry. The Greek chicken dinner is what I get, nicely grilled skin and tender meat. I love the buttery lemony sauce it comes drenched in. I always order it with rice, which has a pleasant lemon flavor to it as well. Never had rice like that before, I enjoy it greatly! You can also get it with fries or salad.

Good burgers and great Italian Beef here as...
