My family and I were in Ocean City NJ for a weekend Vacay and found this place to try for breakfast. We had to use meter parking down the block because the closest parking lots to the restaurant are for the motel guests only and the other lot charges $25. When I went inside to put my family on the waiting list, a party of 6, they told me it would be a 20-30 minute wait. So, I went back outside and informed the rest of my family about the wait and it wasn't even 5 minutes later that they called us and let us know that our table was ready. We sat down and browsed the menu, ordered our drinks and food, and waited. I was thoroughly surprised when the food came out no more than 7-8 minutes after we ordered it, hot and exactly as ordered. I ordered their plain belgian waffle with a side of home fries and scrambled eggs(egg white). Their waffle was great, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and came with hot pourable syrup that made it even better. It tasted like Golden Malted, but if the batter was made from scratch I may need that recipe 👀. The home fries were a tad disappointing because they could've used some more seasoning and possibly the addition of a few peppers, but you can correct this with the salt and pepper provided on your table (And ketchup made it even better!) The eggs were good but I should have asked to have them cooked longer as they were too soft for my liking. Also, I personally believe that the prices are reasonable and make it so that you'll only spend $10-20 per person depending on appetite. Conclusion: I would love to come back to Augie's and try more of what they have...
Read moreI’ve been coming to Augies since I was a young child, and I just brought my baby there for the first time yesterday. Our server was amazing and attentive and the waffles were delicious! My only negative feedback is the way the (possible manager?) was speaking to the hostess. Tables along with myself overheard her reprimanding the hostess, a bit loudly for a small environment in front of all of the customers about “double seating.” As a former manager and server, don’t yell at the poor host! The server complained so loud about her tables being sat that the lady next to us offered to move elsewhere. It’s MDW of course it’s busy and people will get double sat in such a small restaurant. Rearrange sections, give away tables to servers that can take on another, or simply have the host greet the table and let them know the server will be there shortly. I love this place and overheard them yell they’re training and I know it’s the start of the season. I wanted to get up from eating and help because I felt like the employees were under so much pressure when the woman (who was still very nice) just didn’t have a training plan in order with positive reinforcement. :-) I hope the rest of the season goes smoother for all of the servers and hosts and nobody is critiqued in the middle of the dining area, but in private in the back if it’s necessary....
Read moreSadly, an experience here that will have us avoiding ever coming back. We were invisible to everyone except the person who assigned our table, we made sure to thank her or else we wouldn't have been served at all. Though we didn't mention anything wrong, she explained being short staffed. We noticed all other tables being served just fine, even the ones who arrived just after us in our 50 minutes spent there. I usually warmly recommend a nice quaint breakfast spot to those visiting, but our food wasn't even worth it. We frequent cafes that are constantly busy, we are always understanding and have never been treated this way. I still get sick thinking of the old repulsive salsa and cheap unmelted shredded cheese that was on my soggy Omelette. Seeing the response from the owner I wish I would have complained before we left. Save yourself the trouble of possibly being the next customer that this happens to. Because things "do happen" and you'll be wasting time without even so much...
