Edit: Changing the review from 1 star to 4. Rachel ended up giving me a call and gave me a refund. She also stated that she was going to speak with the staff regarding how to handle situations like the one that occurred today. Overall satisfied with how the manager handled the situation.
Between March and August of 2024 I would stop by here in the morning and I typically received great service!
However, I went today and the service I received was horrible!! All I ordered was a chocolate croissant and I had asked for it warmed up. When I arrived, there was no one in line. There were 2 people waiting for their orders, one with a suitcase and another lady. They both were waiting on drink orders. I placed my order at 8:26am, and the employee that took my order was friendly put my order in the oven right away. As I was waiting a group of 3 people came in and starting placing their order, as they were placing it 2 more people came in and the 2 individuals that were there before I got there received their orders. The employee that was making the drinks was occupied and another employee, I believe her name was Angie, came out, stood next to the employee that was taking a group's order then proceeding to turn around and start working on their order. At this time, my pastry had been in the oven the entire time with no one monitoring it. When I realized no one was going to check on my order, I went to the side of the counter and asked if someone could please get my pastry out as it had been there for 5 to 10 minutes. Angie at this time slowly made her way over there and took it out, I asked her if it was burned and she told me no. I then left. I got to my car and headed to work, took a bite of my pastry and it was burned/crispy, as it fell apart once I bit into it. I called the shop and asked if I could speak to a manager and Angie was the one that answered the phone. She stated that the manager (Rachel) was not in but she would be in later. I told her what my concern was and that my pastry was burned. She told me "no it was not burned," I asked her if she cut the pastry and looked on the inside cause it was to me. A chocolate croissant should not smell like burned chocolate. She took my name and number down and told me that she would give Rachel, the manager, my contact information to call me today. The shop closes at 2pm, and I had not received a call back so I called them again. I was told my Macky (I believe that is how you spell it), that Rachel was no longer in but that she was in earlier that morning. I asked what time she had left and she stated around 10am. But I was told that she was not there when I...
Read moreBeen vegan 15 years and have an obsession with baked goods, frosting and most things involving pastries! After trying a handful of VEGAN POP TARTS over the years at official vegan establishments, many of them were really tasty. However, none of those compared to Petite Madeline's version of pop tarts! Not even sure where to begin in describing this magnificence! First off, they are the size of a medium sized adult hand and are super hefty in weight!! I ordered 2 and rather then seperate bags, I asked for both to be put in 1. I grabbed the small bag with one hand and nearly dropped it because it was heavier than I'd expected for a pastry! Second, the frosting tastes like legit omnivore buttercream and was an instant hit! So much that I tried to buy a side of plain frosting (no joke,) to add to mine, but they had none left lol! Third, the crust is very unique for a Pop Tart. It reminds me of a mixture between a sugar cookie+pie crust. The crust is crumbly on the outside and chewy and soft towards the middle which is hard to do with crust. And finally, the filing was something I've never tasted in any desert any time anywhere in my entire existence of this life! Other companies use a jelly filling but NOT this place. The filling can't be described in words. It reminds me of a light buttery custard+a pudding with the smoothness of a creme brulee no joke! I didn't even know something like that was possible to create!! I will definitely drive 80 miles from LA just to get these treasures! If your a vegan and love pop tarts, please do yourself a favor and check...
Read moreI’ve been coming to this famous landmark bakery-pastry shop for the past couple of years and Petite Madeline never ceases to amaze me!
Petite Madeline is a family-owned bakery that is conveniently located on Pier View Way and N Coast Hwy. Sometimes parking can be a tad tricky on the streets. Luckily there’s a Public Parking Lot that’s 3 blocks away at the SALT Apartment Complex, where you can safely park for the day for just $5.
Customer service here has always been paramount. Being consistently greeted with smiles as you enter and the friendly staff even REMEMBERS YOUR NAME! Most importantly, it’s genuine and warm; totally befitting of an O’side family-owned business.
They always keep the inside clean and I love the spacious seating, along with the full-view windows that let a lot of natural light in. Petite Madeline is also a nice spot to just grab some coffee, a pastry and watch the very interesting city streets of O’side.
Petite Madeline doesn’t just have fantastically tasty pastries, but their breakfast menu is amazingly diverse! I highly recommend ANY of their Benedict’s and there’s also vegetarian options. The icing on the cake (pun intended) is that they do catering and make the most unique cakes for any occasion!!
If you’re an O’sider or just passing through, make sure to stop by this warm, family-owned business that sweetly treats everyone...
