Vip Sushi & Hibachi — Restaurant in Oconomowoc

My girl and I just left, our server was spectacular. Today was my first adventure into sushi and she walked me through pretty much everything on the menu, as well as helping to make recommendations for what I should try. Ultimately I had to open up to the fact that I'm a wimp and just got a sushi appetizer and told her to surprise me with whatever was on it. We had also order a DABOMB roll. And it was pretty much DABOMB. We had also ordered a chicken habachi meal and that was also great. Dessert however was picked out by my lovely lady, OREO TEMPURA... Deep fried Oreos. Not what I would've picked but I'm more frustrated at the fact that I actually really enjoyed this dessert.

Honestly the only negatives I need to address here is that the habachi meal was pretty heavy on the zucchini, but flavor wise - solid AF. And one of the younger looking employees had dropped and broken something on accident, and they expressed their discontent with a choice of words that probably isn't the most suitable for a family environment. People drop things, it'll happen again. It sucks, but there are a lot of words in the world that would suit the environment better haha.

I am very pleased with this new learning experience, I felt incredibly valued by our server as she took A LOT of time to help guide me through this. So hey, VIP SUSHI AND HABACHI, Everyone and I mean EVERYONE that was working in this establishment helped to create a very friendly and relaxing atmosphere complimented by laughter and delicious food. Just finished our yummy dinner! We ordered two rolls and two bento boxes. Online ordering was very easy. I also appreciated their new pick up window - “pandemic friendly” behind plexiglass.

Everything was fresh, hot, and the tempura was crispy. The bento boxes had a great variety including fried rice, tempura veggies, ginger dressing salad, soup, mini seaweed salad, 4 pieces of California roll, and a couple dumplings. One was tempura shrimp and the other tempura chicken. The protein portions were large. The tempura was crispy but plain however the dipping sauce was a perfect complement.

We also got the volcano roll - very good! And for the less adventurous - a tempura chicken roll - which is fun way for that picky someone to have sushi with their group.

The only downside was they had a lot of business so I had to wait the full 30 minutes after ordering for it to be ready.

Tip: Text them when you get there, just wait in your car and they will text when it’s ready. (No need to go up to the window until you get the confirmation text). The texting is run by a real person, not automatic. I know this because I left the place without taking two of my bags. I thought I had everything, but they texted me to let me know. I was so surprised how much food we got that I didn’t believe the other bags...

I have had a horrible experience here my past 2 visits. The first time I called in an order and the young boy who took my order forgot to add two of my rolls onto my order... when I got there to pick them up and he realized they weren't on the ticket, his response was "well, are you sure you ordered those on the phone? ...are you sure that you really want those? because I will have to put in a new order and you'll have to wait" YES IM SURE, why else would I have ordered them? Mind you, it would have been courteous to give a discount for the inconvenience, but I did not receive that. The next visit, again, I spoke to a young boy on the phone who took my order and told me it would be ready in 25 minutes. I arrived approximately 35 minutes after my call was made... only to get there and have them tell me they had my order, but forgot to enter it into their computer so the chefs had not even STARTED the order yet. The 3 employees at the counter laughed about the situation & made jokes at each other and sarcastically told me that they were sorry. I had to sit and wait 20 more minutes for them to make my food... AND AGAIN NO DISCOUNT or remorse for the inconvenience. If there were any other options in this town for sushi I would NEVER come back. Horrible customer service, they do not care about...
