UPDATE: Owners responded with an email to contact, but I have not heard back from them at all. If I could change my review to 0 stars I would.
The absolute worst experience I have had at a restaurant. We haven't gotten food for a while from Mo'Bettahs, but wanted to get some tonight. We ordered online via their website (which charged us an $8 delivery fee) and the order went through. Right about the time it was estimated to be delivered it was cancelled without any explanation - just gave us a phone number to call for more information. The woman who answered the phone, the "supervisor," said essentially that she didn't know what happened, her attitude told us were completely out of luck, and she never even tried to answer any questions that we had. She didn't ask for our name, the order number, anything. The only answer we seemed to get was "the tickets just print out and we do them, the tickets just print out the food and we do them," which ... clearly not. It was like she couldn't get us off the phone fast enough - and we were not ok with that because we didn't feel like giving this restaurant a $40 donation instead of having dinner. We drove to the restaurant and spoke to the same person who had spoken to us on the phone. Our order was there, but somehow it hadn't been delivered. Again, this person who spoke to us was not helpful at all (the customer service here was ATROCIOUS.) They refunded the musubi (which had been listed on the website but that they were out of...so why was it still listed on the website as available) but refused to take off the delivery fee their own website had charged us because "it goes to the delivery service." Very clearly it had not gone to the delivery service, it had gone to them via their own website. I asked for contact information for someone above her who could potentially understand that owning the issue was really what we were looking for here, but she said "I can't give out that information, call Monday and maybe the person will be here." As far as I can tell there is no contact information on the website other than the phone number that took us to her. It seems extremely screwy that it's on us to figure out what happened with their system when from our end everything went smoothly (until the delivery was cancelled.) The employee we dealt with had no concept of customer service or helping us solve the issue, we asked questions about it and just kept getting the same noncommittal answers that got us no-where. The food was good, but we will never eat here again because of the way we...
Read moreOverall, the food was ok. I was asked by a friendly young girl if I she could help me at all with the menu and got excited when I said I'd never been there. I asked her to explain the different kind of meats and expressed a medical condition that affects my tongue and so that takes anything spicy out of the mix (shouldn't be an issue with Hawaiian food, but I can't be too safe). A young man stepped in to the conversation and said nothing was spicy, even the steak with the dry rub on it wouldn't be bad because they don't use enough pepper to affect it that way. Based on that, I ordered 2 of a 3 meat option with white rice and macaroni salad with teriyaki steak, kahlua pork, and whatever the dry rub steak is called. When I approached the cashier, she gave me my total and I handed her my card. I noticed they have a point system setup and asked and all she said said was "yep"... no explanation of how it works or if I wanted to sign up. She was in a hurry, but there was nobody else in line. The steak was not fatty but was terribly chewy. I poured teriyaki sauce on my rice and began eating. The spice was not extreme, but enough to affect my tongue adversely. Once I looked at the teriyaki sauce, I realized there were little red flakes. Red pepper flakes and pepper are very different. Nobody said anything about red pepper flakes. That made the teriyaki steak and the rice inedible for me :( As I stated, the steak was chewy, so the other steak option wasn't very good. The kahlua pork was tender, but a bit salty. The macaroni salad was delicious. The experience inside the location left a lot to be desired except for the first girl that was trying to be helpful. She greeted me with a smile and looked me in the eye when talking to me. She should always be up front as the first person...
Read moreEdit: Owner reached out, and through email took my concerns. They seemed to take it seriously. I waited to update this to see if there was improvement. I think they have improved somewhat, though they are still inconsistent is my personal opinion.
Oh, Mo'Bettahs. What a hard review this will be.
I love the food here, most of the time. On a good day, it is absolutely freaking fantastic. I want to leave a glowing review; however, their quality control could use a little work. Once in a while you go there and it is just a little off, or the food is really fatty cuts, or something. It's usually not this way but maybe 15% of the time... enough to make you notice.
I have to take another star off due to inconsistency. This is not a place you want to Doordash, it's a place you want to pick it up yourself and check before you drive off. They usually get the meats you order correct, but they get the sauces wrong almost every time. Their website says you get two sauces with the 2-meat plate. It feels like it is constantly only 1 sauce, or it's the wrong sauce, or you pay for an extra sauce because you are scared and it's not there. I don't understand how they can get the main order right every single time and yet the sauces and sides you order are wrong a frustratingly large number of times. I know it's a small thing, but I don't trust them with my order unless I am picking it up personally.
Whew, that was a tough review to write. I LOVE the food here. Its literally one of my favorite places when it's a good day and the sauce gods have smiled upon me with the correct number. I just wish they had more consistent quality checks. It would easily be a 5 star place for me if these...
