Quick summary: Popeye's thinks that Veterans don't matter and they will actively ignore you if you aren't in the drive through. 10 minute wait to order even though we were the only people in the store, no eye contact, rude, 12 minute wait to receive cold food, order was wrong, and they shorted me on my food. One of the worst fast food experiences of my life.
This was one of the worst fast food experiences of my life. When we entered the restaurant, it was basically empty, which is perfect. We should get served right away, right? Wrong. We stood at the front counter for eight minutes while the front girl would occasionally look at us and the turn her back to us while she loaded chicken into boxes.
I thought to myself, "Not a problem. Maybe she's new, and the drive through does seem pretty full. Maybe she doesn't think we're ready to order." So I try to get her attention by saying, "Hey, can I order some food?"
She replies, "No, wait a second."
Alright, now I'm annoyed, but I'm still really hungry so I will wait. Two more minutes pass, and she finally approaches me and say, "What do you want?" and as I begin to give her my order, she looks away from me. As I finish the first item, she's still looking away from me and hasn't typed anything.
I say, "Hello?" She replies, "Yeah, what do you want?" "I said I want a mild 8 piece family meal, with only dark meat if possible." "So you want just the chicken or the family meal?" "The family-" "Mild or spicy?" "Mild" "Side?" "Mashed Potatoes and gravy" "Okay, what else?" "Can that bucket just be dark meat?" "We don't have that. What else do you want?"
Okay, so she has to be new. She doesn't know what light and dark meat are.
"I'd like a 12 piece tender with biscuits and cajun fries" "Mild or spicy?" "Can I get half and half?" "Uh-huh, what side?" "Cajun fries" "What sauces?" "The sweet and spicy one" "What else?" "Jelly for the biscuits" "Credit card?" "Do you have military discount?" And I ask this while flashing our military IDs, having been given a discount before at this very location. "You have to be in uniform" "What about veterans?" "Don't matter. We want active duty."
At this point I'm sure this person is trying to get fired and is intentionally being rude. I ask to speak to the manager and they tell me the same thing. They only want people in uniform. They shouldn't have given you a discount last time. No, 28 years of active duty service don't matter. Anytime spent out of the service means those years are washed away. They just want to see the fancy camo, they never even looked at our cards.
We decide it's time to leave and find another place to eat. The manager tells the girl at the counter to just give us the discount. Cool, a small victory. We pay, and they fill our bag up, and it just sits there, and sits, and sits, and sits, as the front counter girl walks away and chats with some guy in the back. I finally ask, "What are we waiting for?" and she shouts from the back, "potatoes" before going right back to chatting with the dude in the back. 12 minutes has passed since the rest of our food was left sitting on the counter and we are finally given the last piece of our cold order. "Everything is in here?" "Yeah, bye" We leave, never to return.
When we get home, I discover that "Yeah, bye" roughly translates to, "No, go away."
No sauce, no jelly, a half a container of potatoes, everything needs to be reheated, and they shorted me on the 12 piece tenders. We only got 11, and two pieces were just barely longer than my thumb. Also, not half and half. 2 regular, 9 spicy, all...
Read moreThe 12th street location has some positives, that are greatly overshadowed by the negatives. Food is typically always good, have had few instances where it isnt. The atmosphere is about the same as any other Popeyes, pretty decent for a fast food restricted. However it is the most inconsistent with service, ranging from negligence, to incompetence, and apathetic. Often my SO and I will go before work so we can get something to eat, so we unfortunately would not have enough time to stay if the order was wrong if taking the drive through. The service through the drive through got so bad we ended up trying going inside our last few visits to see if that improved the quality of service, and to catch mistakes and fix them before we'd leave. Here is the list of things we commonly encountered: One of the employees manning the drive through orders is impatient, often barely giving you a moment to reply or consider options. This impatience extends to when you reach the windows where he quickly hands you whatever food there is without asking if there was anything else need. Sauce, silverware, straws, etc are often missed whenever he is there. Order is often messed up. You can say clearly "I'd like mashed potatoes " and they'll mark down fries and give you the wrong thing. There's been numerous occasions we'd order the #7 popcorn shrimp with 2 pcs tenders and they just forget the tenders entirely. Sweet tea was swapped with normal tea, given ranch instead of blackened ranch, told to go but will be handed a tray to dine in, just to name a few things encountered. Sometimes the receipt will be correct and show what you ordered if given the wrong item, other times they just don't listen. Even when going into the restaurant it is a hit or miss, depending on who is working there, if they care to help. While they are being impatient, there is still occasions where you may wait a few minutes to even be helped, while the restaurant and drive-thru line are completely empty. They may or may not ask what sauce youd like, and than forget it completely often. Once you have your food you have to check it for anything wrong, which happens frequently, and than wait at the counter again for it to be fixed.
What really made all this feel worse was the other day we decided to try the Popeyes on Riverdale, and the differences was like night and day. Was taken care of in a timely manner, while not feeling rushed. Order was 100% correct, first try. Was asked what sauces we want, including what for the tenders in the surf and turf (12th never bothered to ask, and would often we'd have to ask them for sauce for it). And even before we could leave the drive-thru window the attendent stopped us and apologized because she almost forgot our silverware.
We plan on never returning to the 12th location. And while it means leaving earlier and driving further away from work for it we will only go to the Riverdale location if given the option. I do hope the 12th street location can turn it around and give quality service, but I will not go there to ever...
Read moreSat at Speaker for 5 min, that was fine, tried to notify the girl that someone behind me left she said ok, waited another 2 min, said to girl let me know when you are ready, she said ok, waited another 2 min the drive thru menu light flashed off and she said how can I help you? I was trying to be nice by notifying the girl on the headset that the menu light turned and she told me in an angry tone that she was closing. I said oh what time are you closing? she said at 11pm, it was about 9pm. I was like ok, then in an annoyed tone she said what do you want? I had had enough at this point and told her that she should probably not talk to a customer in that tone especially since I had waited so long and been so patient and she went off on me saying that I did not know what she was going through handling the front end and the back end and that I should not judge the situation. I told her she could of avoided this situation by telling me that in the first place instead of saying nothing for 5 minutes when I pulled up to drive thru. I was not going to eat there, as I was leaving a worker there was taking out the trash and was about 4 ft away from my car got really prideful and wanted me to wait for him to cross even though he was so far away from my car, I had enough from this place and felt so harrassed I was not going to wait for him first to get closer to me as I left I could hear him call me a f* B*. I was shocked.
I used to go to this place a lot and never had any problems. I felt very harrassed at this location. I have let corporate know what has happened but this is not ok for an employee who was taking out the trash to call a customer that just because I did not wait for the employee to cross when he was at the trash can.
I do not work at the most Glamorous job either, but I would never ever ever ever call a customer that or treat a...
