I haven't had Phó in a while, and I felt it was time to remedy that. After looking online to see if anyone had differing holiday hours and knowing I had to hit the library, I decided on Hot Chopsticks. I'm a first-time flyer, but phó aficionado, so I was pretty comfortable. Let's get into it.
The space is spare, but that works in its favor. There's not a lot of clutter like you normally see in these sorts of restaurants. The skylight brought in a lot of natural lighting, which I always appreciate since halogens give me a headache.
The service was exactly what I look for when I go out to eat. I was greeted promptly, my food hit the table in a reasonable amount of time, and it was exactly what I ordered. The prices are reasonable, though on the higher end for this type of fare. And the menu has all the things you'd expect in a noodle house.
I ordered the rare steak and brisket phó, and wasn't disappointed. It came with all the accouterments you'd expect; Thai basil, bean sprouts, jalapeño slices, and lime. My one beef (see what I did there?) with the entree is that the broth was a little weak. I won't speculate as to why. It just didn't have a lot of flavor. Normally, I'd tear through my protein and noodles, then demolish the broth. After two spoons full I knew that wasn't going to ve the case today. The only other criticism I have is that the sauces should be on the table, but that's more a matter of preference than anything. I don't want to have to look for things, even if all it requires is me doing a 180°.
4 stars is the result. I would definitely visit again....
Read moreBEST pho i have had, EVER! I usually add fish sauce to my broth, in this case, I didn't have to add anything but the lime and Sriracha. I had the short rib pho and my husband had the brisket. We are used to the meat not really tasting like anything, the brisket and the short rib were full of flavor on their own and complemented the broth. Recommend 10 out of 10. For appetizers we had the spring rolls and the crab rangoon. The rolls were huge and the wrap was fresh and not chewy and the peanut sauce was extremely flavorful. The crab rangoons were nice and crunchy and even though my husband hates cream cheese, he commented on how good these were. This place is inside a marketplace where there are several stores. You walk in and it looks unassuming. There is concrete everywhere but they have spruced up the place with some cool greenery. It's directly in front of a roofing company and one would think its not very impressive. You walk up to order and from here you can see an older lady hard at work. From there, your taste buds go straight to...
Read moreEdit: I appreciate the owner's response. Very professional, amiable, and informative. I look forward to giving this restaurant a try again in the future.
Very enjoyable place to study or go for a date. Food came out fast and was presented nicely. However, the food and value received for your money is not exactly fantastic. You're realistically looking at $20 for a bowl of pho once you factor in taxes and tips. The brisket is tough and chewy, the broth is missing a bit of flavor, and there isn't really any service to tip for in the first place. It's not at all terrible, but it's nowhere near as good as the pho from the previous restaurant located here. Unfortunately nothing besides the location and decor lives up to the standard set by Magasin Table, which this...
