Update to my review: I will keep the review below. The hotel did reach out to me after this review went online. They offered me an upgrade to a suite and a free meal at their steakhouse.
As to the upgrade to the suite, I declined. I was already settled in my room. I did inquire as to why I was not upgraded at check in if they were available and was told they actually juggled things around to make a suite available to me as "we have a lot of elite guests". I'm assuming they mean they upgrade people who are higher status than me, which if true makes sense. I am on the lower titanium end.
Having said that, what they are saying doesn't make sense. If someone has a higher status than me gets upgraded, then their previous rooms are now available. I just spent a week in destination city where they would list the number of Ambassador, Titanium, Platinum, and Gold members present in the hotel. Even their titanium members were not that many. So, unless OKC is drawing more higher status members than a destination city I have a hard time believing suites weren't available. For me to stay in the room I am in, not upgraded at all, a low floor, with a horrible view would require this hotel to be so chocked full of Ambassador and higher Titaniums that I would be lucky just to have a room. I find that difficult, if not impossible to believe.
As to the offer of a meal, I declined that as I had already been served spoiled food, the menu they had was not accurate, the wait staff did not know the menu and was not tending bar and instead tending friends. None of those made me feel I could trust the hotel to serve safe food.
I inquired about them paying for a dinner not at the hotel. I was provided a list of restaurants managed by the Coury Hospitality group, the same that run the hotel. I am not going to take them up on that offer because, again, I don't believe their kitchens are trustworthy, they have already served spoiled food.
The hotel did provide points to my account which I don't really value since I travel extensively. Their solutions to this were proactive, but inadequate and, in my opinion, not truthful. I would have been better off staying at a Courtyard or Fairfield. At least at those establishments I would not have expected a level of service that something like the National advertises.
If you are a Bonvoy member, especially one with status, I would try the Sheraton or Courtyard nearby, you may have better luck than me.
End edit.
Just checked in, but can already leave my review. Check in went fine. At check in they have an iced tea bar where you can add various flavors of simple syrup, oranges, lemons, etc. I made just a regular sweet tea with a lemon. Got back to my room and right as I finished my tea I looked down and saw the lemon was covered in mold.
I returned to the front desk to alert them of this and they were obviously apologetic. Provided me with a free dinner to make up for it. If that had been it I wouldn’t leave this review.
Went to dinner and sat at the bar. Ordered a beer and was promptly forgotten about. Another young lady came by a few minutes later to ask about dinner. I ordered a braised lamb pasta dish. After about 10 minutes a third bartender asked if I needed anything and I told him I hadn’t received my order I placed when I arrived. He got my beer.
After another 10 minutes the young lady returned to tell me the braised lamb on the menu was actually grilled chicken. I just cancelled the order and went somewhere else.
As to the room, it is okay. The shower head doesn’t seem to be working, there is unfinished repair work under the sink, and the shower doesn’t drain proper. My view is of an industrial HVAC unit.
Overall, not off to a great start. If things get better I will adjust, but not really...
Read moreWe spent our anniversary weekend at a staycation here.
To start, the room was comfortable the building overall is beautiful. After a very rough start (detailed below and the reason for a lower score) we enjoyed our visit on the whole, but the strength of that is more on the restaurants, the building, and the location rather than hotel itself.
We were early than our stated check in. We dropped our bags off, explored the building. We were told the room would be ready in 20 to 30 minutes (slightly before the stated check in time) and we would receive a call.
We didn't receive a call at that time so we returned and waited. We didn't get to check in until right at 3. This was fine, I hadn't asked for or anticipated an early check in originally, but it contradicted what we had been told. After check in we were told our bags would be brought to the room.
We booked a Deluxe room which the Marriott Bonvoy app describes as having a living/sitting area and a sofa. A picture also shows this feature for the Deluxe room. Our room did not have these features. I called the front desk and inquired (about this and the following) and was told that the Deluxe room only includes more square footage than a regular room, but otherwise is the same. I believe he also mentioned there are only two Deluxe rooms, which may have contributed to the wait to check in. The room was comfortable, but a lot of the extra space seemed to go into a spacious entryway that served no purpose but to extend the length of the walk to the coat closet.
I did not necessarily need the sofa or living room, but it was very disappointing to not get what I had expected.
The second thing was that after 30 minutes we had not received our luggage. I had to call and ask for it. When we received a knock on our door five minutes later, they had only brought two of our three bags. They had to return and get the remainder.
Additionally, the TV was not functioning correctly. If I selected a TV channel it would only show a black screen. I tried multiple channels. The menu worked and the YouTube app worked, so it seemed to be an issue with the signal. On the call they said they would put a request in to maintenance. We left the room for dinner and when we returned it was working.
Finally, we discovered the conditioner in the shower was completely empty upon taking a shower. We had to ask housekeeping for a refill.
In the conversation with the front desk, they addressed my concerns in a very "handling the customer" kind of way. I got no sense of empathy or concern.
Once we finally settled in the rest of the stay was fine.
So to sum up, the building is beautiful, the restaurants are fantastic, the room is comfortable (although not as described), but the service was very lacking especially with the additional expectations with it being on the higher end of hotels. I would also recommend just booking a "standard" room if you're not getting a suite as the extra cost for a "Deluxe" room only really gets you an...
Read moreThis National Autograph was a beautiful hotel with very nice amenities and aesthetics. My husband and I were excited to go because it was our first trip together since Covid-19 started back in 2020. We decided we wanted to get a more luxury and nice experience so we booked a room for 4 days/3 nights. We went with our two daughter's. As beautiful of a place that this was I must say that we won't be staying there again. More of the staff were rude to us than not. One lady scolded my husband like he was a child in the parking garage. This was after we asked if there was garage parking and told that's what valet is for we don't have self-park. There was self-parking available for 24 dollars a day in the same garage as valet with a machine inside the hotel to pay.
We didn't go to the dinner areas or any formal places because we had our children with us. The staff was giving funny looks like we weren't supposed to be there or something, at least that's how it made us feel. It seemed because we weren't dressed a certain way, are young and black, and had kids that we got some unwelcoming looks and attitudes. When booking the room it said kid friendly but the looks we received didn't seem that way. I would have honestly rather have stayed somewhere I felt treated with respect. We paid our money to stay there just like everyone else. I am big on customer service and that you get what you pay for. I don't mind paying extra if the service and quality is good. The entire experience would have been different if we would have just felt like we were respected as customers. Last of all, the location is in a very good location downtown close to Bricktown and lots of shops. We didn't have to leave the downtown area. We will be staying downtown again, but it will be back at my trusty Hilton or Hyatt Place where I feel welcomed and like my dollars are appreciated...
